Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Did you have dvt as well? My leg is killing me. It's non-stop :(
I had a holster done and. He dr decided they weren't harmful. I have also learnt to sort of ignore them. But they do feel really odd and I often find it quite disconcerting.
I found having the ectopic beats fully investigated (holster, echo and stress test) helpful though.
One thing too, I get a lot of heart palps shortly before my period sometimes. That, and not being hydrated enough can cause that. Not saying it's not PE related but truly there can be a lot of reasons for that flutter, beating feeling.
I had heart damage from my PEs which corrected itself over time and that's not uncommon so the fact they checked you for that is good. You sound like you're overwhelmed and are dealing with a lot, and so I do think the accumulative affect of that can really wear you down and take a toll on the body.
If concerned about your heart then discuss it with your doc but also try to find ways to not get agitated. I know that's hard when you have a lot going on but being in that state can just heighten everything your're feeling. It can make you very hyper aware of every sensation in your body so that makes it hard to sort out what's what.
Heart fluttering can be caused by all sorts of things and some of them perfectly normal. One thing I've discovered when I was low in potassium, taking potassium pills makes my heart do flip flops. So, I've reverted to making sure I get enough in my diet instead of taking the pills. When I get enough (butternut squash, white beans, tomato products, potatoes, bananas, etc) most of my fluttering, palps, and flip flops disappear. Just a thought.
Corvid100.. I have had holters in the past. I have hyper pots. An autonomic nervous system disorder, so I have tachy when I am upright. At the hosp I had a murmur, and I have 3 mildly leaky valves too, have for years. I am having issues with finding good docs here in a new state & on medicare. The one cardio I liked is out of network, so I don't know where to go. Most of them have poor reps. So, it is interesting about the ectopic beats! I have no idea... but I will now look into that and pursue finding a doc. I do think I get pvc's.. or have at some point.
mj568.... Hi... so this sounds common! i am very glad I asked here! Yes, once you have been checked out and told not to worry it is much easier to cope I am sure. I hope I find someone good to do the holter here. I am a little relived just hearing it from you guys
rmb.. thanks for the recommendation! I may go check out that board as well. it's only been a couple months but my symptoms are all getting worse it feels like. I have a filter in, but I wonder if the chances are really high for my dvt to continue to break up and go into my lungs. I do actually drink tons and tons of water. So, I know I am hydrated. My period is horrid, but the flutters dont change... they just get worse oddly, but progressively I think. And this is somewhat new to me which is why I believe it has to do with the pe's. The fluttering really began in the weeks leading up to the pe's, but it just much worse now. Yes, I am trying not to get agitated but it's very hard right now. There are many things converging right now, and I am struggling mightily. I am very intune with my body which is why I can pick this out as so unusual. I have been ill for a long time. Luckily, I don't obsess over every symptom, because I'd be dead by now if I did that!! lol.. from stress!!! I can cope generally, although I have hard days because I can't function like I would like to, but I think I assumed I wouldn't have anything bothering me after the dvt/pe's. Like having the symptoms escalate vs subside is just annoying. And mainly the fluttering since that is new and really getting on my nerves.
Hi thatch! I am vit D deficient but take it daily. I love potatoes, and squash too... and beans.. yum! I love all those! I do eat tons of potatoes I have to admit. Anyhow, for me, like i mentioned above, I think its the pe's only because it is all new and began with the symptoms leading up to the clots. I get tachy so I know what that feels like.... but this one is newer.
You guys are all so helpful.. I am glad I asked you! I am sorry if I am redundant.. I just woke up and did not sleep well so sometimes I babble ;) But thanks very much for your comments.. you were all very helpful! Did you all go right to a pulm doc afterwards? I have to call and make an appt, I haven't done that yet either because I had to change doctors. But I have the referral for the new one who should be good.
Thanks so much again:) I hope you are all well today. Do you ever recover?
