5 Stitches! Holy Cow.

The majority of my cuts have been in the kitchen... knives, vegetable peelers, can tops. Nothing that deep, but I think it's a sign we need to hire ourselves personal chefs.

LOL I agree rmb! And it wasn't even my can! My step-son had some soup and left the cans on the counter. So, i was being lazy and didn't feel like rinsing and throwing them in the recycling like I always do. Instead, I put them in a plastic shopping bag and put them in the kitchen garbage. When I did so, I pushed down and the lid sliced right through. That's what I get for not being green. :) But yes, doing ok, pretty sore today and it is proving to be a bit of a challenge to not have much use of my right hand. I am a total spaz with my left!

You know, I've done this EXACT thing, minus the cut I throw stuff in a plastic bag and push it down in the garbage when I'm too lazy to recycle my cans. But you know, while 99% of the time, I do recycle, sometimes I just don't want to and don't want anyone telling me to. Throwing a can in the trash is my little Eff You to the cause band wagon.

Well next time, make sure you don't do it with any can with a sharp lid! LOL

I love the idea of a personal chef. Maybe I'd eat a little better with someone else doing the cooking!

I really didn't think it was that bad at first, in fact, I barely felt it when I did it. Not sure if that is because of the type of cut it is or because of my nerve damage/lack of feeling, or maybe a little of both. But I guess it was pretty deep and about an inch or so long.

We should convince the insurance companies that they should also pay for our chefs for all people on blood thinners! :)

Hey did they stitch you up while you were still bleeding pretty badly, or did they try to control the bleeding first? Just curious how they handle simple stitches like that for anticoagulant patients.

It wasn't actually a really heavy bleed, just constant, and I had already been keeping pressure on it for 45 minutes so it did slow a bit, just wouldn;t stop. They pretty much stitched me up right away and that took care of it. Not sure what they do when it's worse. I was so anxious about getting stitches for the first time, I wasn't even thinking about the bleeding at that point. :)

Yeah, I getcha. When I've had cuts, for a second you feel like you're bleeding more than you normally would but actually what's happening is that it's just taking longer to stop the bleeding. So it makes sense they just treat this situation like they would for anyone.

I'm sure with big open wounds, or really deep wounds that may make a difference in how they approach treatment. Or even where the wound is located, if it's in a really vascular area, for instance.

He seemed more worried about me possibly damaging the tendons than he was about bleeding. He said I was very lucky, I guess it came pretty close. On a funnier note, I am dreading trying to wash my hair! LOL i can't get this wet until tomorrow, but even then I am not going to be able to really use it. This should be interesting!

Dry shampoo. . If it doesn't weird you out, I've gone up to three days without washing mine when I use a dry shampoo.

Oh I didn't even think of that!! Good idea! Doesn't weird me out at all. Today I am skipping all together, and I don't even care. LOL Figure I am at home all day, so under the circumstances, why bother.

I also jsut remembered that I didn't go get my rx filled. Doctor put me in an antibiotic just in case of infection. ugh. I hate taking them now because I get all worried about my inr. Suppose I have to though because it would be just my luck to become infected!

Ouch! Glad they got you fixed up. I'd wear surgical gloves when doing wet stuff for a while to give it time to heal, you'll look weird but it will mend faster.

rmb, I fel really grotty now as I wash mine once a week- very long and thick so too much bother more and it looks okay!

worrybee mine too is long and thick so I can relate. Especially during these winter months when my hair tends to be dry anyway.

Oh if mine were thicker I'd go a week no problem. Mine is kind of fine so it starts looking pretty gnarly after day three. Actually it's hard on your hair washing it every day, and if you color your hair and wash every day, you lose your color faster so it's like washing money down the drain.
