By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

There's a "contact us" link on the site so you could probably ask them directly. I'm not sure those were ever for sale since they were made as part of a contest, but I could be wrong.

The socks were part of a public relations campaign used by Sanofi-Aventis and the DVT Coalition. Basically the kit had a pair of plain white socks which you decorated yourself in collaberation with DVT awareness month in March. You could send a picture of the decorated sock back to Sanofi-Aventis who would publish it on their Coalitions website.

Sanofi has spent less month on the Coalition's activites the past two years. Though Melanie Bloom remained their spokesperson, rather then having events around the country there was a segment on one of the morning talkshows where she discussed what happened to her late husband David. I have had the opportunity to share the podium with her up at Harvard on several occasions during medical symposiums. She is a great speaker with good intentions.
