Holy cow! I'm so sorry that happened to you.

I've heard it may take longer to heal when on warfarin. That's what I've been told by my GI doc (came up after he removed a large polyp from my colon)

However to what degree it takes longer, I don't know. I suspect that it's kind of an individual thing, and may depend on the type of wound or what the issue is.

To be honest I'd been making jokes about it the past couple of days but then yesterday the nurse said that some of the burns aren't just superficial and that's why I have to go to the burns unit. I'm also extremely fair skinned and read that warfarin makes you even more sensitive to the sun (no idea if that's true or not)

At the moment they just keep draining the blisters and bathing in iodine, man that hurt!! I'm on antibiotics because infection is apparently a risk but the dressings and burn gauze is so thick I look like mrs doubtfires body suit lol! I'm already yearning for a shower but I reckon it'll be a fair while before that happens :-(

Well, you certainly have a right to feel a little sorry for yourself. I mean, getting even a minor burn hurts, so I'm sure it's really painful. And I think with time you'll heal just fine. I'm glad you're you're getting proper care.

And maybe switch to iced tea ; )

Lol I've been drinking juice and milk since it happened My dogs were in the kitchen and I just thank god it was me and not them. There's always a silver lining somewhere!

So glad to hear that you're getting proper treatment for this! Scary stuff and painful, too, like RMB said.

I don't know if warfarin makes healing harder or easier or if it even has any effect. I had two surgeries in 2011 and I think I healed from both in about the timeline expected ... not slower or faster.

Hopefully, all this will be but a distant, blistered memory in another couple of months. Hang in there!

Thanks TossNTurn :-) I'm focusing on the shower at the end of this, I hate feeling grimy! I'll just have to see if the warfarin hinders the healing.

On the funny side.. I've just started colouring my hair whacky colours (midlife crisis maybe) and decided I wanted blue. I dyed it but it looked more green so I started bleach bathing and was planning on using another blue today (before this happened) Anyway I was in the hospital and getting highly ticked off that people kept looking at me, it took a while to remember that I currently have blonde roots and green hair!

Thanks Cave :-) Yup my animals mean the world to me, I can't stand when any of them are ill. I was lucky enough to be chosen to rehome a hairy german shepherd in november. He is 4 this month and a total sweetheart, very goofy but a real gentleman and he has settled with my 2 goldies like a dream. He and the cat have a love hate relationship though lol, 1 minute they're curled up on the bed together and the next Gunner is chasing him up the garden. I'm sure they enjoy it really.

@Kerenza----- and I hope I have your permission to 'highjack' this thread a bit more about dogs and cats. :)

Goldies! German Shepherds! The 'working dog' class----- best in the world, in my opinion. They WANT to please. I had Dobies who have received a really bad rap, mostly due to the owners,. They were the sweetest dogs and the most attentive to me of any breed of dog I've ever owned.

Cats/love/hate. LOL Our Siamese and the Dobies got along beautifully. But every now and then the cat would start strolling down the ranch road, then start slowly loping. That was the signal for the dogs to lope after him. When they would catch up with the cat he would just roll over and let the dogs nose him around, over and over. It was obvious that it was all a big game for them. What great memories.

Lol that sounds such a cute scenario! And "hijack" away, I swear to god my animals got me through the clotting episode and the stuff that's happened since.

I do like big dogs, dobies are stunning as are rotties. I almost rehomed a shepherd/rottie but the lady couldn't part with him in the end. I was pretty upset but I totally believe Gunner was meant to live with me. It does annoy me when big dogs or the guarding breeds get such a bad press, 90% of the time it's down to the owners but always the dogs who suffer.

I'm feeling very grumpy and fed up today. Had to visit the burn unit yesterday where they peeled the skin away and bathed it in iodine again. I swear I've never had pain like that, took my breath.

I've now got to have the district nurse in daily to change the dressings but she said this morning there's still a chance I might need a skin graft :-/ The one plus side is I get to have a shower every day even if it does involve using a horrible iodine solution. I went 3 days without one over the weekend and I felt totally skanky.

Nobody seems to know if being on warfarin makes a difference, my inr has dropped to 2.3 when usually I'm at 2.8/2.9. I'm on antibiotics though so could be that or maybe shock can alter things too? Just shooting in the dark really and at least I have a machine to keep track of it.

Anyway that's my pity party (love that saying)

OOF! That doesn't sound like fun at all!!!!! I hope you can avoid a skin graft, but perhaps that might be the best in the long run.

I can't imagine having a trauma like yours not affecting the INR! People here even claim that cold (or hot) weather can affect it, although I haven't found that true for me (yet).

And the fact that you're taking abx will definitely change your INR, sometimes up, sometimes down ---- and sometimes not much at all! But often an increase or decrease in Coumadin by your doctor is all they do while on abx.

I have no insight into anything useful medically just wanted to sympathise. That all sounds so rubbish and painful, a pity party is definitely justified! Really hope it heals fast and without a skin graft

I agree with Cave that much of what's happening could be affecting your INR, the meds, the stress, you may be eating differently, less activity, who knows. Try not to worry about that. They'll adjust your warfarin as needed, keep an eye on it and all that stuff.

I'm so sorry you have so much pain with this. That wears you down to an emotional nub. And this skin graft thing hanging over your head... that nurse may have been just speculating too. A doc would have to evaluate your for that, no?

Apparently it was in the letter I had (from the burns unit) for the district nurse that they were considering a graft. They try the dressings route first though when possible, I don't care what they do as long as it stops hurting!!

I'm having a feast of seeds and nuts later, I can't really face food but they say I have to have lots of protein at the moment. I've had so much milk today that I swear I could moo

You're right about the antibiotics, Cave. I suppose it's inevitable my inr is going to seesaw for a while.
