By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Cramp in leg

It's been a month since my PE and I'm on blood thinners and almost feel back to normal. I had a cramp in my calf while sleeping last night that I was able to get worked out by walking and rubbing it but I'm scared. Is it possible I could be having a DVt even though I'm on blood thinners ?

It's possible but it would be unusual. Is it red or painful or swollen? If you're really worried, contact your doctor and tell him/her your concerns.

After I suffered from a dvt in my leg back in 10/2015 I had a few cramps throughout the course of my recovery and it is my understanding that it could happen.

I agree with RMB that it would be highly unusual that there is another dvt developing. You need to look for those signs.....is my leg swollen? Is there noticeable pain in the calf or thigh? In the case of a dvt that has gone ignored or unnoticed for too long then your walking might be hindered. Look for those signs.

I would certainly consult with your doctor should you be concerned but per my experience it was normal.

I have gotten a few of them, too. Get them in my calf in the middle of the night. I find that if I bend the leg up and put the foot flat on the mattress, the cramp goes away faster. Another thing I've done is measure both my calves and ankles every 2 weeks or so. I write it down on a little chart and keep it in my bedside table. Usually when I THINK a calf is bigger, it's not, or maybe it's off by a quarter of an inch, which is probably just poor measuring which is on me. It may help calm you. My sister gave me an oximeter that you put on your finger to measure oxygen and heart rate. I thought it would make me crazy, but it makes me sane. I THINK i'm breathing too fast and after I measure, I see it's all in my head.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
