Definitely call the doctor immediately. If it were me I would call tonight if there's a doctor on call and would consider going to the ER if I couldn't reach a doctor by phone. But definitely call first thing in the morning at the very least.

I've had spotting on the toilet paper, but nothing I would call real bleeding. I would at least call/contact a doctor as soon as possible, and describe the symptoms. Bleeding is scary, but they can give you a vitamin K shot if necessary to counteract the coumadin. Good luck, and keep us posted.

As edmie says, there is a difference between getting a few spots on toilet paper and "painting the toilet pink/red". In the UK, I think the magic number is whether you lose 5 ml of blood (a teaspoon, not easy to judge). If you lose more than that, contact your doctor/A&E.

However, it isn't that unusual have rectal bleeding while on warfarin. When I had this, the docs seemed more concerned about ruling out other causes. After ~ 5 days the bleeding went back to spotting and apart from having to undergo a couple of (embarrassing) tests, nothing changed. My main bleeding occurred 2-3 months after starting warfarin, so this isn't out of line with what you describe. Get it checked out, but don't be too anxious.

Thanks Venkman, Edmie and rosie the cat. It has let up a little this morning. I am going to call the dr. and at least see what the say. My husband, children and I are leaving for our summer vacation tonight. I would rather at least call before I go and make sure it is nothing serious.

Oh definitely call. It's probably nothing to worry about but just in case. Sometimes, asking to speak to a nurse rather than the receptionist at the doc's office makes things easier. Also, who manages your INR? You could contact them as well to see what they think. Maybe also check your INR incase it shot up for some reason.

If it's just a little blood when you wipe it's probably not that big of a deal. That area can be delicate you know, so any kind of abrasion or if you have hemorrhoids or polyps can easily bleed. If it's a bunch of red blood in your stool and in your toilet bowl, that would be more cause for concern because you can get anemic, and it could be a sign of something else going on.

I have ulcerative colitis so I have no issues with talking about this stuff, clearly. I swear, I've become my grandma with the bowl and poop talk.

It could be hemorrhoids. But see the doctor anyway..
