By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Cough brings back chest pain

It's been about 5 weeks since my PE diagnosis, and I woke up today with a little bit of a cough. It's not too bad or frequent, but when I cough it's more than just a tickle in my throat.

I can now feel a little bit of chest pain where it had hurt when I first got the PE. It's not a lot, but it it's the first time I've felt it since it went away a week after I got out of the hospital.

I'm not too worried about it. I'm assuming that something irritating my lungs like a cough will bring back some pain if I'm still healing a little.

I'm curious if others would agree that it is normal to feel some pain return when experiencing chest cold symptoms.

Absolutely!

Actually, I didn't have any pain at all when diagnosed. I got my first pain about 4-5 weeks out when I just started pushing a little bit harder.

My experience has been that pain comes and goes during recovery. Different things might bring it on, but it definitely pops up every so often.

Yeah, same with me. I never had pain until after the PE. Sometimes even just laughing made it hurt (I have a big laugh). I had pain on and off for quite a while actually, mostly in my chest but also in my upperback. I still get that every once in a while.

I thought I'd follow up. I called to see if I could move my INR check up from Monday to Friday. I explained that I was having mild chest pains to the nurse on the phone. Since I'm on so little warfarin (1mg / day) the Nurse Practitioner asked to see me today.

Good news is that my INR is at 3.1 and all other vitals seems good. She confirmed exactly what I was expecting to hear which is that if my INR is good, then I don't need to worry about anything.

The pain is gone so far today and my cough is mostly gone.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
