Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Coming off thinners

Hi everyone

I'm recovering from what I've been told were mild provoked PEs. My doc is taking me off warfarin after three months and I'm curious to know what the process was like for coming off?

I asked him about rescanning me and he somewhat brushed me of and said to make a follow up appointment to discuss it. I have the feeling he doesn't want to go down that route but I think it will ease my anxiety. I'm still sob and can't get that full breath feeling but have managed to start back up in the gym and even play basketball.

I m scheduled to come off 10/6 but my appointment isn't till 10/19 what's everyone's thoughts? Is this normal?

The process is pretty anticlimactic. You just stop taking warfarin on the day he recommends. There's no weaning off or anything like that. I don't think it's a big deal that your coming off a couple of weeks before your seeing your doc. That way they can do the labs when you see your doc.

I think most docs don't recommend a second scan after coming off, unless your clots were complex or large or there were heart issues involved, etc. I would ask your doc why he feels it's not necessary. That may help you if you understand his reasoning. And you should share your concerns with him too.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
