cold or flu bug...what can a person take?

I have emailed my doctor to ask him just that but I wondered if any of you had any good suggestions while I wait for an answer.

I am not running a temperature but am having sinus drainage.
I have now developed a deep hacking cough that just makes my poor lungs hurt and ache like all get out!

Grand daughter ran a temperature (100-101) for like 2 days. Hubby has been crouping and coughing all week. He can home early today and went to see a doctor at the local clinic. The doctor told him it was just the crud, flu,etc that is going around and there isn't anything he could do to help. Just have to ride it out! My hubby has asthma and even I can hear him wheezing sitting across the room, so come on!

Is there anything Over The Counter I can take that might help? Or might help the pain & ache in the lungs? I am not coughing anything up yet thankfully!

This hurts worse then the PE did when I went to the hospital!

Depending on what I'm trying to treat, I take mucinex, tylenol, and sudafed. If concerned about stuff affecting your INR, ask your pharmacist. They are a really good resource for this kind of thing.

I have to echo asking the pharmacist. They don't require a co-pay and they can suggest stuff that is less likely to mess with your INR.

I dont have anything else to add medication wise other than saying the same as the previous replies but I feel for you, Im just about over a coldy illness and the cough was not pleasant (though I was never as bad as you sound) Hope you all feel better soon xx

My husband has asthma as well and whenever he gets a respiratory infection, he is put on predisone immediately. This calms the asthma while he recovers. It's only for a week or two and makes all the difference in the world- no more wheezing and struggling for breath.

I swear by Pseudoephedrine generic and in many preparations, cheap as beer. It is a mild amphetamine so those with heart problems are contraindicated .

Look also at guaifenesin also if you have chest congestion as it thins out the mucus so the lungs can bring it up Spit it out is a good thing

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
