By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Cardioversion

Greetings. Hope everyone is having a good day. Although we got the good news the heart is structurally ok he has developed a new issue since the cardiac arrest and that is atrial fibrillation. I know that they are common but on top of the PEs and cardiac arrest I really want this to be sorted. I am so nervous because he has another job interview Tuesday and I dont want him to start feeling anxious. If that happens his chest starts to feel full of palpitations, he sweats feels anxious it scares me and the whole thing has a domino effect. Anyway, just venting as usual because I feel emotional and scared. sometimes I feel as if we will never get back to normal. There is so much to be grateful for but it still seems we have such a long way to go. I am afraid if the cardioversion does not work he will have to face another procedure. Does anyone out there have Atrial fibrillation and has anyone had to have a cardioversion or a Catheter ablation? would really appreciate hearing if anyone can offer any advice. xxx Thanks again for listening.

I'm sorry for what you're still facing with this. I don't know anything about those procedures, but I do know that a lot of people actually do live well with a-fib. To me it sounds promising that in his case there are procedures they believe than can do to correct it. Although my problem is different, it can't be surgically corrected, yet with medication I'm feeling much better, so I would believe the same to be true for your husband also. I know it's a long and tiresome road, just hang in there and I'm sure you'll get things figured out with his doctors, and it will be okay. Hope things go well with the job interview!

Just an FYI... there is an a-fib support group here on DS that may be able to help you with some of your questions, or offer some advice.

I have a beta blocker to help regulate the rhythm as I get frequent tachycardia and nitrates to help relax the blood vessels so the blood can flow more easily.

I didn't know what cardioversion was, that sounds interesting, that they can get the heart back into correct rhythm. I know that a common medication if someone does live with a-fib is coumadin or other blood thinners to prevent clots forming in the heart. But that's the extent of my knowledge on that, because it's not what I've got.

Thanks a lot MB and SM. I am going to find that A- fib group so that is great news. Had not even thought to check. Hope everybody is going to have a good day. Thank God for this board and the people that support it. It has been a lifesaver for me and such a huge comfort.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
