By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

I had a really bad clotting incident in May 2009. Several clots - including two large ones on each lung. Almost died but still here but a little confused and puzzled.

I play badminton once a week and - although i puff a bit - I manage about 6 games with very few stops. I also swim once or twice a week and do ten lengths on my front or back with not much problem.

However - a short walk seems to bugger me! I love to go with my hubby to take the dogs but after about five mins I get a tight chest and have to stop. It makes no sense to me and it does worry me.

I also get a pain in my throat sometimes and - now and again - feel really sick, headachy and ill - although I have a fairly active job and work full-time.

Anyone have any comments on my strange breathlessness whilst walking? I am loathe to see the dr as I hate them!!! (LOL) I feel as if I have had enough of tests and pricks to last me a lifetime!

i personally think singing bad or good is great for the lungs. as long as no one else is listening(like my daughter who is gifted beyond words) to criticize and make you hold back. singing makes you excersize those lungs and go deeper and longer and project ,nothing held back. we are to self conscious about our breathing when we can hear and feel every breath. singing even unto losing the voice (benefit to my daughter), really is good lung exercize and sometimes gets you to cough up what is stuck deep down that we are scared is bad when we let it go. have to admit after my 8 hour car/singing trip my whole chest aches and i have no voice but i don't feel as much out of breath. and feel like i dumped a whole l whole lot of stress. sing away. it id good medicine.

I also get breathless at odd times. When I exercise I'm generally ok, but sometimes watching TV or sitting at the computer I feel like I'm being squeezed. Glad to know I'm not the only one!

hi... this is a strange one for me as well, i was walking 5 kilometres on the dreadmill. and felt just fine. cant atm though my legs are aching... again. but a 10 metre walk to the letter box and back has me gasping for breath. strange... thought it was just me... i really like this forum.

I had my PE almost 3 yrs. ago...been off of coumadin for 2 yrs. now. I found that after the PE, the occasional asthma that I experienced pre-PE was a little more pronounced. My lungs are just more sensitive in general...I really notice the high pollution days (and when allergies are bad). It really bothered me for a while...finally made an appt with my doctor and got better control of my asthma. I take Singulair, Claritin, Nasonex, and one puff of Qvar in the mornings. I feel much better. I do sometimes need to take a puff of my albuterol after exercising a lot or on high pollution days, but breathing is so much better. My lungs have always felt better the more I exercise them... I had a pulmonary function test in November as part of my yearly physical....my lung age was 22 (and I am 41)!! I was ecstatic...could hardly believe it. I do think that it takes the lungs a long while to fully heal.

Sounds like you are doing a wonderful job of staying active. My guess is that something in the air is bothering you...at least that is usually the case with me.

It helps so much to hear others having these issues and your not alone. Dr's just look at you like your making it up. The throat issue has been one of my issues. Thanks again for all of you responding it helps to get things into a perspective.
