By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

I was off the blood thinners for a little over a month in order to have the genetic tests. I started back on Monday and am having a hard time of it.

One thing I've noticed is how tired I am all the time. Could be a side effect of Coumadins?

Also, I have increased bouts of SOB and pain and am concerned that it could be another PE. How long does it take for us to be protected again, once we get back on therapy?

I suspect it takes 3-5 days to get in your system since it takes about that time to completely get out of your system. When are you supposed to test your INR?

Some people say warfarin/coumadin makes them tired so it could be from the meds.

I absolutely had fatigue from Warfarin. I felt a huge improvement in energy levels after being off for just a week. My 84 year old aunt was just put back on warfarin for a heart arrhythmia and was telling me just the other day how she doesn't understand why she is so tired and cold all the time. She had PEs years ago, so they aren't messing around with an aspirin regimen, as they're afraid at her age if she clotted again it could lead to a stroke. I told her it was probably the warfarin, since I had both those symptoms. She was actually quite relieved, since nobody bothered to tell her about any possible side effects. They also have her on a completely wacky dosage, so I'm hoping she'll let me go to her next INR check with her so I can talk to her consultant.

Not that I'm glad eveyone feels tired on coumadin. I would not want
to think I was getting old. But something is making me feel worn-out.
and I have been ever since I've been on coumadin.
I'm a lifer on the stuff.
