By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Appetite and weight loss post PE

I have experienced loss of appetite and weight loss since my PE hospitalization in mid-November. I have lost about 5 lbs in the last month, even with effort to eat high calorie foods. I started Xarelto, which is the only thing that has changed recently. Has anyone else experienced this?

EllaBella, I gained weight too. It was from not being as active as I was pre PE for a while. That, and I just tended to snack more because I was home for a week before going back to work. I can't be trusted to behave with too much time on my hands!

My husband was also very nervous for me, insisting he drive me everywhere and stuff like that. I finally had to tell him that it was killing me. It's a hard conversation to have. Our loved ones react to things in strange ways, but I think ultimately, it's based in fear of losing us.

Nobody here sounds like me so I'll add my 2 cents. 6'2 180 before, ate like a horse the whole time but constantly coughed up blood for two weeks before hospitalized. Body shaking, rib aching coughs and lots of night sweats. In all lost about 18 pounds before hospital, stayed pretty stable there (kept eating like a horse) and then had to build back weight after (ate like a horse). Stopped eating greens and citrus but never lost appetite. Hate coumadin but it didn't do a thing to my appetite.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
