What happened? Can you give more details of your story?
I had a DVT in my calf and lots of PEs in my lungs this past Aug/Sep.
The I just had them come back again last week.
Doing ok now. I think.

It's entirely possible that you had a clot in your leg and the entire thing broke off and wound up in your lungs. You're definitely not the only person on these groups who may have had that happen... cancer is a really rare diagnosis on these boards.

It can be emotionally difficult to cope with the clot diagnosis and the recovery. For me, the emotional recovery was definitely more challenging that the physical recovery. Hang in there! Do what you need to do to baby yourself and reduce your stress level. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

It's an awful feeling, the not knowing.

They don't know what caused my PE. No DVTs showed up in the ultrasound, no genetic factors, no hormones, no long trips, no nothing. Like you I wondered if it was cancer or something else horrible

I just finished a year on warfarin and nothing else bad ever turned up. Good luck to you.

I know it's not always the case but usually in situations where cancer is the cause, you'd likely have been symptomatic of cancer before getting a clot.

To answer your question Billy, I had just gotten over a cold and I started experiencing extreme shortness of breath upon exertion. I also have a pretty stressful career so I was chalking this all up to getting over a cold combined with stress. But when I found myself barely able to get enough air after climbing a flight of stairs I knew something was desperately wrong. I went to the ER on a Monday -they took an x-ray and blood test and said nothing looked wrong and sent me home. I continue to suffer through the rest of the week and went back to the ER on Friday and then they took a CT scan and found the clots. In both lungs.

I do feel like breathing is getting easier but by far (I agree with you tossnturn) the emotional and psychological effect of this is the worst!

So sorry to hear you're struggling. I was the EXACT same. No super obvious cause, just some possible minor precipitating events. No dvt found for me and so I was terrified of a cancer diagnosis. The only solace I had was that after a hundred tests and 2 nights in the hospital, no obvious cancers turned up. I'm nearly 8 months out and still wondering what the cause was. Still debating about whether or not I should stay on my Xarelto. Unfortunately, there aren't any easy answers sometimes. Just give yourself time and seek out help if you can - a therapist who could help you sort through the feelings. This is unlike anything I've ever been through and a therapist could help. Time will also help somewhat. Just know you're not alone.
