Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

"Alere Home Monitoring Data Breach
By Jeremiah Frei-Pearson on November 12, 2012
As we have repeatedly noted, identity theft is a multi-billion dollar problem. Many companies have responded to this threat by upgrading their security procedures. However, some companies continue to put their customers at risk. Last week, Alere Home Monitoring announced that it has exposed the medical and personal information (including social security numbers) of more than 100,000 people. Alere Home Monitoring monitors people who receive medical treatment outside a hospital setting, including those who use anticoagulation products, heart transplant patients, and others with significant home medical needs.
Disclosure of personal information and medical information is unlawful, and Meiselman, Denlea, Packman, Carton & Eberz, P.C. has brought lawsuits on behalf of victims of such disclosures in the TRICARE/SAIC, Zappos, Sutter Health and Saint Joseph data breaches. If you were served by Alere Home Monitoring, and you believe your private information has been misused, please contact us immediately to discuss your legal options."

Look at what my best friend did with my picture!

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
The thing that truly pizzed me off about this one is how it happened, per the letter. Apparently an Alere employee had their laptop stolen from their car, a laptop THAT HAD MY MEDICAL INFORMATION AND SSN ON IT!!!!! Why the [bleep] does an employee have to take a company laptop with that info out of the office????
Chris
I'll just do my little (way off topic) public service announcement also that y'all should be getting your credit reports once a year for all three major credit reporting agencies and checking through them to make sure you recognize everything on them. You might be surprised how many open credit card accounts you might have hanging around ... or you might find that someone has been opening accounts using your SSN. Always worth doing. I try to do this every year around my birthday (coming up this Friday!) as a sort of present to myself.
Stepping off my soapbox now...
So far I haven't received 'that letter'. (sigh of relief)
"Why the [bleep] does an employee have to take a company laptop with that info out of the office????"
True dat.
About selling the ID theft protection----- Of course they are. (grin)
If it were a woman perhaps she had to email Petreaus. (Groan!) But before anyone gets too excited about my comment......... it was a joke.
Chris
But theft can happen regardless. At my company, we've had laptops stolen IN THE OFFICE. So company security policies now require they be locked when not at your desk or when you are gone for the day.
A lot of small company offices get broken into just for laps tops. This just happened to a friend of mine. She's in a 5 person office, and someone broke their office window before work, ran in, took all the portable electronic stuff and they were gone. It happened so fast. They have it on video.
I work from home occasionally and never leave my lap top in the car, ever. I just think that's stupid.
My wife's amazon acct got hacked twice in the last two years, it was only seeing the strange charges on the mobile banking site that we caught them
Just checked my credit reports, nothing like seeing Paid/Never Late on all your accts. :) No suspicious activity
It could be too that while your SSN may not be on a lap top, the company still has to notify of the breach and the potential issue because somewhere they do house SSN and medical info, even if not directly accessed on the hard drive.
