Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

I hit the 2 year mark today since I was admitted to the hospital with my PE. It's amazing that time has passed and my life is essentially normal. It didn't feel like it would ever be normal after the first 6 months. Even after 1 year I was still thinking about it a lot. Now at 2 years I rarely think about it.
My life is a little different though, but not so bad. I broke my tailbone and I find myself asking my doctor if I need to be concerned about clots. We take appropriate measures and everything is fine. I felt some chest pains the other day so we did a d-dimer test to help reassure me that I wasn't clotting. I try to be smart and to be in control while not letting it control my life.
So normal is really a new normal, but essentially it's normal. For those of you just starting this journey, please give it time. Your body and your mind will slowly heal. We will all get through this!

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
I too sometimes wonder if my life would go back to being normal again. I am 1 year and 2 months out. I am trying to return to my activity level again, which is sometimes frustrating and sometimes rewarding. I saw your post on the DVT board and then came directly to the PE board to read this post. Now I am so encouraged that if I am patient and work on it, I too will have my own norm : )

thanks for this message. I was admitted to hospital with my PE in March 2014. I'm still very new at this and I have been affected by this, because I was knocking on deaths door when I was in hospital. it's comforting to know that my fears about clotting at this stage are experienced by other as well.
I think it is pretty normal to have wild fluctuations in how you are feeling during recovery. For example, I felt much worse at about five weeks out than I did when I was diagnosed. I even had a repeat CT because of the symptoms and it turned out my clots were totally gone. For the most part, I was just pushing myself too hard to get back to "normal" and when I slowed down and gave myself some time to rest and relax, I usually started to feel better within a couple of days.
For me, I had bouts of increased pain, SOB, and exhaustion on and off up until about 11 months out. They got less frequent and less severe over time, but it was still hard to be feeling like you're doing pretty well and then wind up on the couch for a few days feeling awful.
I'm glad you got checked out! Try taking it easy for a couple of days and see if that helps. Could be that you're just trying to do too much, too soon and your lungs are fighting back.
I have been having a few mild chest pains but no SOB,etc with it the last few days. I think it is most likely related to all the running around I have done with the girls this summer and not resting at times like I need to or should still. I am 13 months post PE/DVT's and for the most part doing pretty good.
I do notice that on days where the humidity is up or it is really hot, it does bother my breathing. Those are the days I try to hide out inside under the AC as much as possible.
I think I am also getting to a new normal like you but still experience a few bumps in the road off and on. Hope your tailbone heals quickly!
