I just started taking it. I take 50 mgs per day right now. Is it normal to constantly be dizzy? I mean dizzy to the point to where you fall into things when you are walking, and dizzy to where you can not sit up straight? I already suffered from dizziness, but this goes beyond anything that I have experienced so far. I am laying back right now typing this. I can't sit up straight. Earlier I was talking to my husband on the phone. I knew what I wanted to tell him, but I couldn't get it out of my mouth. Does it get better, or is this a concern that I should call my neuro about 1st thing tomorrow? If I am doing this at 50 mgs, I am afraid of what will occur if he up's my dosage per day.

I've been on this about 4 years now. And in the beginning..it was terrible. Couldn't find the right words, in lala land all the time, afraid to drive, and I could not IMAGINE starting Topamax with the dizziness I am feeling now. However, it DID get better for me and others I know. It was a God send for me. I woke up nearly every day with throbbing on the right side of my head. It WILL get easier..it takes time. I was a zombie for a good 3 months, with a 3 year old :( lots of support helps!!

I have heard that can happen with Topamax . I know that all of those things can happen with IH also ....they do with me . Double whammy I suppose .

Thanks for the replies. I have got to be at my Neuro's office at 7:30am on Tues to get hooked up for a 72 hr. EEG. If this dizziness does not get better, I guess I will call to see if my Father can drive me out there. With rush hour Atlanta traffic, I will not even chance driving there. Well that and school busses out on the road and kids out at bus stops. I am doing better now, but all day I just felt as if I were in another world.

Pris, my daughter's doctor swears that the way to have the least side effects is to starty slowly. He started her at 25 once a day for a week then 50 a day for a week then 75 a day for a week and now she is at 100 mg once a day. He has her take 100 at bedtime instead of 50 twice daily. He says it lessens the side effects and dizziness. If your neuro started off at the high dose, I would imagine it could be bothersome. I would give him a dose. She suffered more dizziness before she was prescribed the topamax, so guess that was from the IH. Good luck and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. She has been on it for almost a year now and is truly one of the lucky ones. She is doing pretty well most days.

I agree to start slow with Topamax. I couldn't imagine trying to start it in the midst of all the symptoms I'm having now :( good luck!
