question for the ladies

this maybe a dumb question but I have to ask....does anyone dye their hair? I was reading a study that hair dye is being linked to brain cancer.....if that's the case could it also be associated with PTC? just curious.

I can tell when I eat too much fried foods, yes. Most of the time I bake or broil but there are those occasions where I crave a hamburger and fries/tots. A lot of times I can't finish the fries/tots, mainly tots because they seem to keep more oil, because my stomach just can't handle it and I start feeling queasy. I also noticed, prior to DX, that if I drank any alcoholic beverage, it would not only affect me faster but also it seemed to sit in my stomach longer.

I know you were relating cholesterol to inflammation, but as a side note, my cholesterol levels were always good prior to having my gall bladder removed, 4 yrs pre dx.

Mary, do you mean a quality brand of probiotic?? If so - Pharmax HLC, or Ortho Molecular Ortho Biotics are well recommended. I have also bought the Whole Foods 365 brand probiotic in the high potency/super formulation, seemed to be good as far as I could tell.

Hair dye is safe, besides like everyone is saying the smell that might give you a headache. 40 volume peroxide takes my breath away even in a well ventilated room! And if there is a danger with it it's probably not much of a concern for people dyeing their hair but more of a concern for hair dressers who are breathing it in on a regular basis. But if you're getting Brazilian blow outs or keratin treatments they have formaldehyde in them, which is a carcinogen, and so does nail polish. Supposedly keratin treatments don't have it but I'm pretty sure thy still have small amounts, not as bad as brazillians.

I would not use any other hormone besides natural progesterone, for those of us with IIH.
I get my natural progesterone compounded from College Pharmacy in Colorado. Boulder I think. the prescription form is Prometrium.

Ya definitely some people have severe reactions to hair dye, that's why they always say to do a patch test first, although no one ever does, I guess I should've worded that differently. I guess I meant safe as in you probably don't have to worry about getting cancer from occasionally dying your hair. But then again I'm not a doctor or anyone who would know for sure, just a hairdresser! I hope your friend's okay...
