Baking soda water also helps, but it can lower blood pressure, so depending on your bp. I don't know if you should try that or not.
Something else that really helps is vinegar. I have drank straight vinegar. It's not the most logical solution but for some odd reason it works instantly.
When I was pregnant I would take teaspoons of mustard. That also helps. Instantly.
Long term the ginger is suppose to be the answer. It really helped me after a few times. You are suppose to take it before bedtime. I used it a few times a day. I stayed away from all spicy foods. Which I am sure you are doing.
If you do try OTC acid meds. You should switch them up every week. Zantac, then prevacid or whatever you are taking. They work better if you keep switching them around. At least that's what the ER doctors told me. lol
I so hate you are dealing with this. Unfortunately the diamox adds so many other symptoms to our illness it just becomes a cycle of confusion.

The doctor prescribed 2 Nexium a day. It is a lot better now but not gone. She said to call if it hasn't gone away in a week. My grandmother had a hiatal hernia. I am wondering if that is it. I am still going to try the ginger. I have it in crystals for baking that is why I was asking if the sugar would be okay. I think I have some regular powdered form too. I just didn't know for sure which kind you tried? By the way, how long have you been on diamox? Shirlee
I've had a ton of side effects. The doctors always say it's not side effects, but it is. If you look up diamox, or look up "rare side effects of diamox" it's insane how much misery that drug can bring on.

The only doctor who listened to me at all about how bad the side effects were was my retina specialist. He said that I had been on the drug too long for me to still have the side effects. He ordered a BMP blood test because he believed that my potassium was messed up. He also had his nurse call just the other day to find out the results of the test. The military nurse that I called to find out said my chloride was a little high but not out of the ordinary. My retina specialist wants me to get a copy from the military. Since I am going to see him next week for a recheck on my retina, I will bring it to him to see if he thinks it is normal.
I have seen other postings by people who do not appear to have such strong side effects but they are rare. It appears most people really suffer while taking this obnoxious drug. Thanks, Shirlee
