Hubby is having his brachy therapy on Dec 22nd & the more info that comes to our possesion the scarier this seems. They throw so much at you for the "after" that we're almost thinking "why are we doing this". They said he'd probably have a catheter for a wk or so, have to do ice packs every hr for a day or so for swelling. They'll be giving him something for urine in case any seeds pass & I can't think what else at this moment.

Really what I'd like is if there's anyone that can share any of their experiences etc., how was it after for you, are they throwing all kinds of worse case scenarios at us, etc. etc.

Again, anything anyone can share sure would be appreciated.

I just joined the group. I saw your post and wondered how you are doing. I had Brachytherapy last friday 5 FEB wit Koutrovellis in Vienna VA.. You are six week in front of me; how are you douing what problems have you encountered that might be usful for me to be aware of. thanks for posting

My apologies for the lateness here. My hubby & computers don't get along so I'm doing the keyboard work here.
Things went quite well as far the implants. They used abt 90 seeds on him. He did have to wear a catheter & bag for abt a week but that was it. Not much pain or discomfort but quite a lot of bruising. He had been on Flomax for a few yrs now but they've increased the dosage for a period of time.
The urgency to go was quite lets say fierce at first but is gradually returning to normal. Could take up to 6 months for some.
A tip he got fr our cancer clinic was that if it was painful at all to go then rather then the traditional standing position to sit down & he did find that way better in the beginning.

Thanks for the response.I am 18 days since I had 160 seeds through the sweet cheeks either side of the anus using CT guided placement of the seeds. Has the time from 2 week to 6 weeks after implants been difficult? I came home with a drain bag too, but only because I was concerned about going into retention with 30 inches of snow on the ground and no way to get to the local hospital for relief. I had blood in the first two drain bags and a trace the next morning. My biggest problem was urine flow stinging when I had a BM. I could not sit on a toilet seat without some pain. I am up once or twice during the night. I seem to get cold watching TV and I am ready for a short nap in the middle of the afternoon most days. I am not certain when the difficulties will start or am I through the worst of it.
You folks seem to be having more difficulty than I am right now. I hope it your recovery gets better soon.
