A prolactinoma is a benign tumor of the pituitary gland that produces a hormone called prolactin. It is the most common type of pituitary tumor. Symptoms of prolactinoma are caused by too much prolactin in the blood or by pressure of the tumor on surrounding tissues. Prolactin stimulates the breast to produce milk during pregnancy. Orangejuice, I didn't know they removed tumors this small. Was it mostly because of your complications due to surgery?
well i can tell you i have had my tumour for 15 years and was told i wouldnt be able to have children and have a very healthy happy 11 year old.basically once you are on the right medication try and get cabergoline dostinex rather than bromocriptine side effects are less.your periods will return to normal and there will be nothing to stop you from having kids.then you just get blood tests done every 6 months and have your prolactin, thyroid levels checked and medication adjusted accordingly .as for the weight gain i had the same problem and i think it was depression brought on by the shock diagnosis that i had a tumour.just know with medication you can lead a happy healthy life just as you did before and youll be fine :)
Just found this website & it's nice to know I'm not alone now. I was just diagnosed last week with a prolactinoma after a couple years of symptoms that I did nothing about. Luckily both my husband & I are in the medical community so in a matter of a couple days I had my prolactin levels checked (was 138), got an MRI (8mm tumor), saw a neurosurgeon & endocrinologist. I consider myself lucky in that respect after reading stories of people who have to wait months to get an accurate diagnosis. At the same time, it's a complete shock to my system!! I'm about to start cabergoline (maybe tonight... but it's our valentine's dinner & I might drink some wine. probably not the best time to start it?) & I'm wondering what to expect this week. Am I going to be out of commission? Will I be a train wreck w/ side effects? I'm terrified right now because I'm still in shock. Having just an MRI & prolactin levels drawn, it's only just a snapshot of what's really going on. I won't know if it's growing, shrinking, what my prolactin levels are for 3 more months at next MRI & bloodwork. It's just so surreal. I have a tumor in my head!! Really?!?
