It can if you stop suddenly. It's best to do a long gradual wean and you should be ok.

Your doctor can give you a weaning schedule and enough medication to last until the end.

How much are you taking , and for how long have you been on it?
A normal range is around 50-150 mg / day..

I am off of them. I am experiencing joint and body aches and sweating. I feel like I have a sinus infection. It is hard to tell if this is a flare up of my disease (MCTD), quitting the tramadol, or something else. I stopped taking all of my meds except tramadol and Ambien about a month ago, which I take as prescribed. I have plenty of tramadol to last quite a long time. I seem to prefer cold turkey to weaning.

I think it's withdrawals from the tramadol which makes you feel like you have flu symtoms.

They should be gone withing a day or two. Tramadol is a little different from most opiates, a little weaker, not as strong so withdrawals shouldn't last very long. I was on it for a short time and it did nothing for me.

You should be good to go by the time you read this but if not, might be a good idea to talk to your doctor.

Shouldn't be more than couple days for that med.
Sure remember those days seems like I had the "flu" quite often.

How long were you on them? tramadol isn't a typical opioid and only has weak affinity with those receptors so it takes a long time to develop a dependancy. It also has antidepressant effects which can lead to antidepressant withdrawal type symptoms. I've heard that sometimes withdrawal from tramadol can be worse because of its duel function. I've been on it for months at a time at high doses and haven't had any withdrawal symptoms, but thats just me. The symptoms shouldn't last too long, I've tapered off drugs several times and the best way I've found is to take just enough to alleviate the symptoms, as long as you are taking less than your usual dosage your moving in the right direction. What you are experiencing is exactly what I am experiencing. I thought I had the flu but I was told it was withdrawal from tramadol. I have been taking 150 mg for 5 years. This is horrible and I want it to be over. I have been taking L-Lysine, B-12 and Meletonin to sleep. Still trying to work. Thanks goodness it is flu season and everyone thinks that is what is wrong with me. The depression is unbearable but I threw them away (should have tapered off, I was told) one day I will be normal again. I will be thinking of you. Hope you are doing better than I am.
