This is a good example of how difficult it is to quit without support. The fear of being flooded with emotions, the delayed grieving and the depression are all reasons to get help.
When I went through my outpatient program, I discovered I had ptsd on the death of my father and I didn't even realize that had anything to do with my addiction. What happened was he fell on the steps leaving my home and broke his neck. It was hard. But with counseling I was able to deal with the loss and move on with my life...a life that didn't include narcotics or alcohol.
I suggest you ask your primary doctor to refer you to an addictions counselor.
Good Luck!

It can be difficult, as you say, and sometimes we need help from profesionals to get to underlying pain that may be blocking our chances at recovery. I had spent many years around recovery. i had gone over a lot of things in those years, and felt I was at the point that I was ready to shut the door on the past, and move on with my life. I felt that I had spent so much in the past, and I really wanted to move foreward. I went to a treatment center, and one of my asignments was to write about my father that had been dead for several years. Reluctantly I agreed to do it, but really felt it was a waste of time. I felt that I had reached a point of peace about everything, but while going back in the past, and bringing back to mind things i had not thought about in years, I started noticing that I was getting angry feelings after. This really surprised me a lot. I talked with the councilor about it. I found it kinda confusing. As I kept at it, I discovered that there were things that I had not been allowing myself to be angry about. There were also things that I hadn't allowed myself to be truthfull about, such as how my fathers drinking had affected me when I was younger. The whole thing allowed me to finally admit to myself some truths that I had felt guilty to do as a child. I was brought up that you didn't say certain things about your father, because he was your father. By the end I was able to finally admit that my father was an alcoholic, and at times was abusive verbally, and physically. I still love my father, and he was a very good man. He did the best he could with what he had learned growing up. His parents died early, and he was often abused himself by his sisters. I also picked up a lot of his traits that had a big impact on my life that caused a lot of pain for myself, and others that I loved. What this helped me to do was forgive and understand my father. We all learn both good and bad things, but it doesn't mean that our actions are always intentional, and sometimes we just do what we have been taught and then pass it on to others. I still love my father, but I don't feel angry about a lot that I used to. This topic is very good. Thanks for bringing it up. All the best. James

So mad at Xfinity! They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today! Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...
