I liked the poem "Sitting With The Shattered Soul" that AloneNaturally posted so much I decided to share a short form of Desiderata. It was written in the 1930s and went unnoticed until a minister at a church in Baltimore quoted it in 1956. I live in Maryland, so that got my attention. I heard Les Crane's version on the radio when I was a kid in 1972 and it made #8 on the Billboard charts. He won a Grammy for it.

This is just part of it. My favorite part is at the end. For us abuse survivors, it's nice to be told we have "a right to be here."
"Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others....
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit...
...Be yourself. ...Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here...." Max Ehrmann, "Desiderata".

Annie Lennox Universal Child
I loved it when Annie Lennox sang the lines in that song, "I'm gonna be a special place, a shelter from the storm." Brought grateful tears to my eyes. We all need that don't we? The song made me realize DS PTSD is that special shelter from the storm place for me.
Chill
Don't sweat the assholes
Be kind
Be real
Somehow it lacks the panache of the Max Ehrmann version, but. . . Short or long version, it remains sentiment you can live by.
I have felt isolated, from DS and my home, only because of so many hospitalizations and circumstances that are beyond my control. People in my town seem to know what I say on here, as I got a phone call within 20 minutes of posting something on here in a hug, and that is a very discomforting feeling so thank you Arfie for expressing this.
I am sure there are a lot here who will benefit from this post. I have learned humility over the years and there are people in this world who do and will fail you.
