Maybe Carolyn's theory is not right, but it really helps me accept some of the negative things that happen to me.
I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. It might not be a reason for me, but there is a reason. I don't think I exist on this earth just for me.
There is a reason God led me to this site. There is a reason God gave me the smartest border collie on the face of the earth and the cutest, most darling calico cat.
There is a reason you posted this topic, and I am glad you did.
I'm not religious but every once in a while i ask thing as if i was and when ever i ask about suffering.......These are my thoughts
Why would God allow us to suffer? Because its only those who know suffering who are better equipt to do God' s work.
Its only them who really know God and all God angles.
Is them who know how Jesus suffered too and why Jesus chose to be around those who suffered.
I'm not sure we come to this world in the persuit of happiness.
But that my "relgious side".......That's is usually in the closet.
I used to think about all this a lot and after reading Carl Sagan "Dragins of Eden" made some conculsions of my own only.......
Actually i think ego-centrism, narcissism, greed they are all maladaptive coping mechanisms developed as a result of man unique dualistic nature of haiving to live depending on very pimitive systems to survive and a very high sense of self and higher consciouness..........
But those mechansims are maladaptive and they cause serious havoc....
love deep questions.great post.
k now ziiip.
You really caught my attention in your replies #5 and #6. Human beings are capable of so much good. However, history, old and recent has shown the "reptilian side" so frequently. Just turn on the news any hour of the day and we see the worst in every arena.
The battles between "good" and "evil," "productive" and "destructive" fill the millennia of human history. We have adapted to changes in the word that happened and that we caused fairly well. However, what's going on now can lead one to wonder if we, like the dinosaurs, will miss a big step because we are drowning in too much greed and foolishness.
Don't know--probably been watching over my limit of news lately.
Can we absorb more than "normal" people? Carry the pain, as toot put it--and are we, as a result more evolved? Keeping it simple, here's a thought that seems to be proving itself true over many years of my own experience: When forced to fight for survival over long periods of time, the human brain undergoes extensive "training" that others do not. So in the end, one might argue that those who go through a lot of hell and come out the other end understand more about a lot more.
I consider myself a person with a lot of humility. I would never claim to have ownership of "the truth." There are many truths for many people. At the same time, part of the reason that so many of you inspire me, even though I pass days without words in reply, is because you understand so much more than most of the "normal" people. (Oh, I so dislike that word, "normal.") They are barely out of the starting gate. Sometimes I envy that.
Merit, your answer was really helpful I think I can believe in that balance of the universe idea, everything happening just as its supposed to. Then I wouldnt need to let it be personal or about me or my fault somehow, right? And, that would explain why I have always tried so hard to NOT do the kinds of things to others like what others brought to ME doing the opposite of what I experienced
Virlaceygo, I have felt like a magnet my entire life, for negative energy would you call it maybe? And, I have always felt so strangely aware of these energies when Im around people sometimes my bodys reaction (being around people, especially certain ones) is so extreme that Ill have seizures and I never understand it as its happening. Occasionally, Ill literally tremble for minutes to hours after being around certain people, and the emotional feeling of being contaminated or something like that after an encounter can stay with me for days.
And thats just the beginning of what I experience, then theres the out-and-out violent/abusive (undeserved) treatment, but over time, the pain does subside also, especially this past year as Ive been learning to actually focus on the painful emotions long-buried inside me associated with the events. Sometimes the weight of the pain feels unbearable and it is SO scary to feel it and then, accepting that this is just the way I am, just the way it is, is a new concept for me, but I am trying thank you SO much for your insight, it really helps : )
tootienni - your comment really made me smile! It is SO great to hear people speak straight from their hearts, I have always wanted to have friends like all you guys, and I cant believe how great it is to listen to all of you I feel like such a novice and SO very alone in my experiences, thinking I am somehow at fault also, but I KNOW I am not I am going to look up that book you mentioned, Dragons of Eden, too and that lady, Carolyn Myss that virl mentioned.
ibutterfly - sometimes I think I watch too much news, too find myself saying, over and over, how can people do such things to one another! It breaks my heart and more and more it seems theres suffering and pain EVERYWHERE. Who can escape it? Or, maybe thats the answer stop trying to just take it all in? Sometimes I think my soul cannot bear more, but the older I get, theres just more and more my heart hurts ALL the time, not just for myself, but for so many people
I once heard it said that if the pain of every person that ever lived could be heard, it would be an unbearably loud, continuous moaning sound that would go on and on forever and yet, no one likes to talk about it, or hear about it
Except all of you you are the real deals, thank you SO MUCH for being there for the likes o me!
now it is MY turn to ziiiip it! ; )
There is so much pain and suffering in the world and the news just brings all it into our homes. Just like with PTSD, trying to make sense of all the bad is ridiculous because it does not make sense.
And something really happens when I practice surrender and handing over. And sometimes, prayer really works for me. And yet people are so f...ked!!!!!! Why is this so? I get horrified by the stories some of you have had to live. It's not the same for everyone, some people suffer a lot more. Why? I don't think I'll ever understand, and I don't think anyone else will, either. I focus on connection with higher power, and helping others where I can. It's all a mystery.
When 9-11 happened, it was so senseless. Most of us asked, "Why," but the only thing most of us could do was to move on and ask, "What can I do?"
