Use your education organization skills.
A timeline of the early years in power point style may help.
It would also be a very dramatic opening to your presentation.
There are also ways to list the strengths you found in your journey that would show the resiliency you have aquired in this battle.
as you know because of the classes I am taking, part of several have been the need to "write my story"
Just a couple years ago I could only be caught up in the emotional storm of what was currently triggering me. But my most recent one for intro to Education was a required eight page paper. Most of the first page were one line statements of the types of traumas that I lived though listed in order of importance ( omitting some I didn't want to expound on). followed by more one line statements of affects of my reactionary behaviors to the life. Then finishing with what I felt about how I want to live from here on.
Instructor's remark was "Wow! Powerful opening"
Then in sections I filled out the statements based on the order of things listed. Keeping it benign enough to prevent him from required mandated reporting.
With a final summary of what I felt my experiences taught or gave me, as how they would apply to education and Art therapy. Finally, where do see myself going in ten years.
Some things I kept brief but others were more in depth.
Who would have thought 8 pages seemed brief?
This also helped me in another class where I had to do a presentation in a Positive psychology class.
If you haven't yet set an outline on 3x5, and cards with pertinent information you want to share.
Then use the cards as prompts.
If you have the cajonies call for questions.... ( I did)But keep the answers straight forward and BREATHE.
Afterwards I spent the rest of the day and half the other in recovery. In bed with good movies and a decent supply of chocolate to go with my metformin.
Hugs of support, I know you can do this.
J.
I just woke up with a nightmare of someone trying to break in. After 30 years of having this happen, I still have this nighmare. I can't/won't go back to sleep now. Different than childhood abuse, but PST just the same.
Good luck to you, I have no doubt it will be worthwhile and encouraging for others.
