Surprising support from Netflix film

Sometimes here on DS PTSD fellow members who are in AA or Alanon or other 12 step programs post about how they help in their PTSD recovery, too.  Last night I watched a Russell Brand film on Netflix, just because I like comedians like Russell Brand. 



It turned out to be a movie about his recovery from being an addict, "Russell Brand From Addiction to Recovery."  I don't have addiction issues nor am I related to any addict.  Yet, I found that in some way the film about addiction recovery was inspiriing to me for my own PTSD recovery. 



Don't ask me to explain it in detail, I'm just heartened that it was.  I'll take support wherever I can get it.  So I'm passing the experience on in case it might be heartening to others like me seeking support out there.  Just speaking for myself, it might not work for anyone else.  But now I think I have an inkling as to what fellow DS PTSD members from 12 step programs meant when they mentioned in some of their posts here that it helped them.

I'll have to see if we can get that film here on Netflix... I think Russell Brand is great ... The Twelve Step program has helped so many as it's a way of life... a healthy way of life... Thanx muji!...xo

I would like to see that movie too. I don't have addictions either but I do have many issues lol. I once was drawn to a book on addictions by a psychiatrist and there was some helpful stuff in it. So I feel we all have our strengths and weaknesses and I guess help can be broad in terms of different ailments. I wish there was a 12 step programme for PTSD, probably be a 100 step programme :)

Addiction stems from emotional issues is what I was told in AlAnon, so... maybe some of the coiping and journey are more similar than we realize.

You already know that Alanon and Naranon (for friends and family of alcoholics/addicts) is my support group foundation. I have worked the program in two languages on three continents. It even works with my frequent flight patterns. As far as I can tell, pro therapy networks don't work across the hall from one another, much less on an international scale.

In those healing centers, I have frequently heard the claim that the addict network and the family network are two sides of the same coin. One side flips to the other with great consistency.

Thanks, Muji, for letting us know. I think it's important we draw from all levels of life experience. Pain is pain. And we can all learn something from each other. I like Russell Brand too.

Thanks, everybody, for validating that this is an appropriate, relevant source of support. Arfie, I hoped you'd be willing to speak from your twelve step experience, so thank you. I do believe as you say, that the addict network and the family network are two sides of the same coin. I wish like Musk that there was a 12 step program for PTSD recovery directly, but maybe looking into Alanon would be helpful, huh?

    I'm feeling down,, and got alot on my mind right now.  I got grief going on, on top my depression and anxiety and now I got to worry about somewhere to live since I can't afford living here since my mom passed.  So many bad things have happened since my mom passed.  One thing after another it seems.  Yesterday our fence fell from a storm that hit, had to call someone to prop it up.  Thank...
