Haha funny your name is keep swimming. I texted a friend “just keep swimming? I don’t want to...” she said I don’t have to swim but I better keep bresthing! I’m just going to go to sleep once kids are down which will be soon. We had an eventful day.

Ya breathing would be a good start. Call your therapist or Dr. I have been there on the edge. I took a second at a time and yes I hated people saying it was going to get better, Soi won’t say that because I have no clue what you have to deal with everyday. Just breathe ok swimming is not required

Not all hotlines are the same. Some are answered by barely trained volunteers, others by paid professionals. Sometimes they only have 15 minutes to talk to you; others can talk to you for hours.

For the most part they try to figure out how much of a danger you are immediately, and send help if needed.

Then try to connect you up with counseling.

And sometimes they can talk to you past that. Sometimes the best advice they have is just to "sleep" and hope you feel better in the morning or something equally well intentioned, but sometimes painful.

I used to volunteer at a crisis centre and people will often discuss having suicidal thoughts

If you state that you are going to commit suicide that's a different thing

A thought doesn't require an action so they will talk with you sweetie and try to hear you and help you through these thoughts

In regards to time allotted for calls that's actually laid out by the hotline depending on what category a call falls under.... A 'befriending call' was allotted 15- 20 minutes when I worked at the hotline


A call that is considered a crisis call is allotted the time that it needs again at the line that I worked at

It depends on where you are. Here, they send an ambulance. My suicidal friend, small town, no hotline, I called my hotline to get him help. I got the sheriff's office, I told them. They called his home. He said he was fine. Then he stabbed himself in the throat and died.
