I have been turning a dark corner for a while now. Last year my husband, myself and our five pets were evacuated due to a large fire and I have been in a down ward spiral ever since. We live in a new town now for almost a year and I can't find it in myself to meet people or go out alone anymore. It's like I'm not myself anymore and I don't know what to do from here

Little things can make big diffs. Hope joining here was a little thing that can make a big diff in turning that downward spiral around. Healing hopes.
Please don't think that you and your husband are the only ones who self medicated with liquor. Many of us here have also found ourselves behaving after a tragedy in ways that made us not even recognize who we were any more. A desperation to do something, anything to change the story sometimes overtakes our better judgment. Be gentle and forgiving with yourself. We understand.
This is a safe place for working on your story and finding healthy ways to change it. Repetition brings mastery, I've found. The more we repeat the story of our tragedy, the more we become authors with authority over it. Friends in other places can't take the amount of repetition it takes, but here we can.
Feel free to look at it from all angles until you find the one that helps you move forward and be positive again. We are your witnesses to the process of getting better. Sorry for what happened to you, but glad you're here in this healing place.
