I used to do martial arts a couple of years back and I really enjoyed it, but school got in the way and I didn't have time for it anymore. And then shit happened and my PTSD got worse, so I never picked it back up again.

Now my best friend has been taking martial arts classes for a few weeks and he asked me to join his class as well.

I think he's started worrying a bit about me, I didn't feel well lately (consequence of more shit happening, again. You'd think I'd be used to it by now.) so I started to isolate myself.

Being around people is usually kind of stressful for me, especially if I don't know them, but I'll go anyway. If nothing else I get to kick my friend's arse (He thinks I can't, I think he's wrong =P).

So, yup, now I just have to muster up the energy friggin' PTSD keeps sucking out of me to get off my pretty arse. First time's on friday and I reckon I kinda look foreward to it.

Yay you!! I think this will be awesome for you. I am in the process of looking for a club to join. Therapist tells me I need to get a hobby an interest and socialize. There are so many thing that this will do to help with the sit happens. Exercise, release of anger and frustration, positive connections, socializing, confidence building, self esteem building etc. There 8s also the connect to better times in your life. I hope you be a use I think this will be such a positive influence o your life. Go ahead get excited about going and enjoy that excitement

I used to do martial arts as well. I am attempting to get back into shape so I can at least teach since I can't fight right now.

That's great Neo!!!... I have a big social anxiety however I find if when I'm out I have something to focus on (like your martial arts) it makes a big difference...I hope you have a great time...x

If you don't get to kick his ass this week, there's always next week.

I don't know that I have EVER gone through an isolation phase that didn't require some nudging to get me out of it. I am a major league isolator. . . Been through more isolation phases than social phases.

Whatever the evers of my personal whats. . .

Good luck with it. I admire your willingness to go for it. Socializing is hard for me with PTSD too. And then there's that I live in an isolated rural city where most people my age are married with kids. Lots of support your way!

I used to do marital arts. I received my black belt a number of years ago. I loved it but due to some medical issues ie. A rod and screws in my back to name one I cant do it anymore. Yay you go and have fun. It is great exercise and good for social contact.

You go girl!!!! You go and have a great time. I do the best when I treat the mess I have to deal with like a good fight. And that is what it is, a fight. But if you can keep that edge and battle it, you will win the fight. Never get down on yourself. If you feel that coming on, get off your duff and get rolling doing something productive that will break you out of that moment. It sounds like that is exactly what you are doing. Kudos to you!!!!
