Ads on most internet sites are determined by what you look up. At this time of year, if you're looking for wool socks for your kids for Christmas...you'll end up with sock ads all over the place. (Calvin Klein clothes...fit my stick skinny son very well...the ads are a bit too sexy for my tastes though...especially with my 15 year old daughter at my shoulder so much of the time.)
To get around that, it's possible to get adblock. (Some sites are blocking people who use it, or charging fees...I have no reason to believe that DS will be one of those though.)
It's also possible to go "incognito" on the internet. You'll still get ads...but they'll be random and not matched to you. (Thus you won't end up with ads for Russian Wives as you're going through a divorce as I got 10 years ago on DS. There was some member at the time who had tried it? Or was getting a divorce from it? Honestly I don't remember, and it doesn't matter.
At some point it went from hurting...to an inside joke. ((It also brought up what I call "culture wars" where one group believes that they hurt more than another. With the end of a marriage...it was divorce vs being widowed. Umm, it's not a contest. For some it's one. For some it's the other. Just because I knew 3 people who had been through both and found divorce more painful...doesn't mean that was going to be true for you.))
In anycase..adblock or incognito can be useful.
For me...I'm leaving the ads. After a bit, I ignore them. And quite frankly, since I do a lot of shopping online...sometimes it reminds me that I didn't make a decision about the socks yet. (I'm thinking of skipping it. Although I need to find another present of some sort for my daughter.)

Do you think having anxiety could lead into depression? What are your thoughts?

Lately I've been feeling scared and full of anxiety. I recently found a lump under my nipple. I hurt my back too. I'm in the process of moving. I'm run down. Everything is hard

But I don't want to put up a link from a fake site (I've been fooled before...just twice, but fixing something...ugg. I still get calls from the tropics from people who say that "my computer called them.")
Advertising that is useful for an oddball like me? Who'd a thunk it? Sure beats the male enhancement ads. My male doesn't need artificial enhancement, thank you. I likes him the way he is. Most days. . .
(And I'm not sure how much longer DS was going to last if it wasn't making any money. While I'm sure that the good folks at DS would love to work for free...some have kids to feed.)
@SAmbod, everyone will see different ads, based on what they look up on the internet. (Or you get the generic ones.)
((I've been getting tons of Macy's ads (I have a habit of putting stuff in my Macy's shopping bag and then thinking about it for days/weeks.) I'm also seeing Darned Tough sock ads, and boot ads. And ancestry dot idon'tcare ads.)))
It doesn't surprise me that ads for therapy are coming up left and right because people talk about the subject on here and that's how the search engines (or whatever they're called) pick up on it.
You'll see the same types of ads pretty much everywhere though all the news sites (CNN to FOX), all of the support group sites like proboards, and so on.
The specific mix will very depending on who's willing to plop down the cash for ads...
Sigh...with the lace, my daughter would NEVER wear it.

The ad blocker works really well for me. Most sites have to ask me to turn it off to view the site and even then sometimes I can x out of it and still view it. I have ADblock for my androids too. Go to https://adblockplus.org/android-install
and hit the button. It will take you to the play store to download it. You do have to use their web browser but it auto populated my most visited sites.
(I tried to add this to my previous comment but there was an error loading that form).
(((This just seems such standard operating procedures for half of the world. The person that knows what they're doing is seldom in charge, or alternately, valued if they are. In any case, my bet is that they'll get it figured out. While I don't think that they're giving many resources to this site, the fact that they're trying to get revenue again means that they haven't given up on us.
Sambod isn't the only CL that's taken an interest in this...so my bet is...that at least the CLs are talking about it. Jessy and company from DS were all logged on a good part of the day yesterday. (Click on Members and you can see who's online...do it on the DS Member's board...and you can see who from DS is on. Of course if they read this, they may stop doing it...whatever. Sorry, I've been around here a long, long, long time...this stuff isn't that hard to figure out even when I do not care 99.9% of the time. I appreciate what the CL's do...but you couldn't PAY me to be one of them!)

If you use google maps then it will still show because it is synced with your pc browser. You can turn logs-tracking off and here is a link for that: https://lifehacker.com/psa-your-phone-logs-everywhere-you-go-heres-how-to-t-1486085759
I did that for a while and I use waze for maps because it does not log my data. I found that could be good and bad though, if I am lost or in an emergency then they cannot track me if my location is turned off. I opted on opening and using a different google account for just my phone and I never sync it with my laptop. I also turned geo tagging off on my pictures. I hope that helps!!
I agree Patti!
