I've been a member here at DSPTSD for 11 years now. For 10 I was an old bachelor living alone. After retiring to Mexico a friend introduced me to someone who is now my significant other. A DSPTSD member of long standing here in our daily support group came down to visit me in Mexico last year and enjoyed meeting my Mexican significant other and my significant other's teenaged kids. We get along wonderfully together. I'm teaching my significant other's 13 year old son how to play guitar now.

My significant other had some symptoms this past week, though, that concerned me. I moved in with my mother so I could nurse her through winning a three year battle with breast cancer. I was on hand for her two mastectomies, for her weekly radiation, and for every single chemotherapy appointment. I held her head over the toilet bowl day after day when her chemotherapy made her nauseous.

I insisted, then, that my Mexican significant other go to an ob/gyn asap. We had that appointment just now this morning. We'll get the results April 22. Prayers and thoughts of support very welcome for the test results of a biopsy they're doing to see if my significant other has ovarian cancer or not.

Add me to the prayer chain and add you and your partner to a prayer chain of women I belong to that consists of over 1000 women across the country. We have a set time each day where as many of us who can pray together for those in need on our list. If we can't make the set time we do so on our own time. Call me crazy but when we pray together, as a group, from our own homes, churches, offices, parks, or wherever across the country I am overcome with a feeling sense of serenity, strength. May the both of you and her family find the strength to support one another as we are stronger in multitudes than alone. With love, A

Thanks Beryl367. Prayers are most appreciated. This morning she told me she had some pain there, and that it wasn't just from the biopsy. She's supposed to go back on April 22, but that's a week. If this pain goes on we're going back before then.

She thanked me a lot this morning for caring for her health like this. She says it's the first time a partner's done that for her. Heck, I was a hospital chaplain for 10 years, as most of y'all know. It comes naturally, it was my job to do for strangers at the medical center where I worked, so I'm going to do it for my significant other even more. It's great that it turns out to be a real new support to her. Thanks for supporting ME so I can support her in turn.

Still waiting for those test results to see if we're dealing with ovarian cancer or not. Another day down and 7 to go. It puts a little stress on my PTSD, I must admit.

Remember your self care for those aggravated symptoms.

Just based on what little you've said, your significant other may have a larger support network/ extended family than your mother had available to help. It sounds like all of your mother's care fell to you. With a larger support network, if your s.o. does have cancer / need care it sounds like it wouldn't need to be all you. (If maybe you're stressed by expecting a "repeat").

Still hoping and praying the biopsy is benign, and whatever caused her pain is more easily treated.

Does anyone here have a comfort item you carry with you when you go out? For example this is my doll, Annie, and I've recently been bringing her with me when I run errrands flor have an appointment. Holding her comforts me. I've bought her clothes, crocheted for her, I recently bought a personalized blanket with her name on it. Just wondering if anyone else has a comfort item.
