With my beloved's immediate health crisis past and the immediate danger in a sustained holding pattern -prayers in progress-- until January, it is time to find the pace we can keep. A pace which allows room for the healing power of serenity, joy and appreciation.
Ay yay aie... High drama is SO much easier with far more role models to emulate...
Yup... Here it comes... The meditation reader share... The funny thing about my meditation readers is that sometimes the resonate, more often they don't. "Courage to Change" has been good for me this year. And hear it comes. As always, gently edited to fit my personal needs of the day.
"I used to think that being good to myself meant eating whatever I wanted, buying anything that caught my eye, sleeping only a few hours a night, and avoiding any activity that wasn't fun and exciting. The trouble was that the consequences were very uncomfortable, and when I let myself think about it, I felt I was wasting my life.
"Today, being good to myself is far more challenging, but the benefits are absolutely wonderful! I I attend two or three therapy meetings each week, read my literature daily, and take some time out to talk to the unseen forces. I try very hard to make my serenity more important than any of the circumstances I encounter.
"I now enjoy wholesome food, exercise in a way that I find fun and handle money in a more conscientious way. I celebrate my growth. I dance, I draw, and I enjoy wonderful friendships. My lifestyle isn't rigid, nor would I want it to be. I still enjoy spontaneous moments, but today I have them by choice.
"Today's Reminder
"I deserve to make choices that let me feel good about myself. It may take a while to see results, but I am building a life that promotes my health and self-esteem. It's worth the wait.
"The strongest principle of growth lies in human choice. ~George Eliot"
Methinks the anonymous author is ahead of me in the Recovery Race, but... Zoom zoom. It bee good chew food for the current transition in my life.
Just sharing.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...
My most recent shifts have been influenced by some friends here and your quote is perfect:"I deserve to make choices that let me feel good about myself. It may take a while to see results, but I am building a life that promotes my health and self-esteem. It's worth the wait." That's a big shift in perspective from "all I ever do is fail". I'm still angry and hurt about the whole thing, but leaning towards the shift ...
I'm happy to hear you are taking time out for yourself and try to heal yourself... ((hugs))
I have learnt so much since I joined this group it has been phenomenal and through that and coupled with therapy I am starting to like myself more each day.... so the gears are definitely changing in the right direction.... but alas I do also think I am a failure at life and cannot lead an independent life either..... failure / fear to thrive I feel holds me back so much....... so sometimes those gears are really stuck.... but I believe we never step into the same river twice so that brings me much hope
Shifting gears is when I am moving from one set of circumstances to another. Work to home... Home to a public event... Etc... In this particular week, I am shifting gears from the crisis mode of my beloved's near death experience to the maintenance mode of getting a still gravely ill shit-head (did I say that???) to the next phase of the treatment plan.
