Settling down after winning tenure

So glad to have you DS PTSD friends. My college roommate (whose wife has PTSD) and I went out into the Appalachian mountains' woods near my house for a picnic. We talked all afternoon about my getting tenure and other things, just talked for hours.
It got me started on being out of the past, which is what a tenure review is (an intense experience living in the past 5 years) to bring me to be here now, to the present, to realize I actually did this, I got tenure. Out of the closet with PTSD with all the prejudice. Yes, it was a times sort of like the AIDS prejudice on the job from a minority of people like I saw it was at that lawyer firm in the 1980s in that Tom Hanks movie Philadelphia. Not as extreme, but it got similar sometimes for me.
My buddy told me yesterday that I should hold on to how I accepted the support of DS PTSD members. In my tenure report I offered an actual letter by one of the members of DS PTSD here. It said in writing I had PTSD but that we supported each other, and that's what won. He told me to learn from that.
I plan to. He also invited me to visit him and his wife in Minnesota this summer. I plan to do that, too.
Thanks for supporting me day by day through the tenure process. What a bunch of real friends you are.

Most important of all, they have the headwaters to the Mississippi River.
Glad your story is finding a happy ending, muji. Hope you go visit those friends in the "land of a thousand lakes." Those lakes are awesome. Minnie-HaHa (Minneapolis/Saint Paul) ain't too shabby, either.
I was just telling another friend here via private message that it's sinking in that getting tenure really happened. Day by day I'm a little happier and more peaceful as a little more weight from this past year's tenure journey is lifted my shoulders.
Geez, if I had known in August 2015 how hard the process was going to get over the year I might have chickened out. I wouldn't have believe I could get through it. And I would have been right, I couldn't have gotten through it alone. It took finding an even deeper way to trust DS PTSD support. Now thanks to you all I am so glad I got through it and don't have to look for another job at age 57. Whew!
