PTSD: Sexual Assault Warning

I got tested recently and naturally I was to answer a lot of questions about my sex life. When I revealed that I was actually a virgin the doc asked why I’m even getting tested at all.
So I told them “I was sexually assaulted in the past.”
It was the first time from my mouth I admitted to what happened to me as a kid. And it hurt. It hurt a lot. After my testing I spent the next half an hour walking aimlessly sobbing my eyes out.
The thing is I repressed and dissociated heavily from those memories. I was assaulted multiple times by different guys. I dismissed it as harassment and teasing. But it was really assault, my body was violated.
I know I still have a life ahead of me but it’s hard living with the trauma. I can’t focus on work, I struggle with other men, I can’t really live without dealing with this. Without healing.
It’s been 6 years since my assault almost 7. And it’s not a great time to be a sexual assault survivor but I’d argue it never really was. And I think what I’m really afraid of is hearing degrading things like, “Oh you deserve it.”, “What were you wearing?”, “You just want attention.”
But I’m not alone of course. Other survivors have let the world know that it’s never the victim’s fault. And I hope maybe I can still follow my dreams.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

This sounds cliche, but it really does get better with time. I would really suggest going to a professional. Even just one session of therapy gave me a lot of relief. I completely understand if you either aren’t able to, or you don’t want to. It took me YEARS to agree to seeing a therapist.
All of this is to say that the world might feel dark, but there is light at the end of this tunnel. From one stranger to another, I hope that you start feeling some form of relief soon. This probably didn’t help at all, but please know that you have my full support.
I'm glad that you're here..... Gentle hug.....xo
