"There might be someone thinks I'm odd
Cause I sound gloomy and grim
And they might wish I'd sing
An old hit love song,
But I'm not wishin' on them
No, I'm not wishin' on them
Those times when you
Got to be your own hero"
For years now the song's been my go to song when stuff's bad.

Sara Bareilles - Brave
I do this every step I take on my way to classes, or opening a new assignment. I even stumped my professor in a discussion..So satisfying to see him say "I really don't know, I don't have an answer." Living experience is sometimes better than book experience..so be brave LIVE!
I had a meeting with the neurosurgeon regarding the brain surgery today; I had to spend several hours driving alone (while combating optic nerve tremors), going to this appointment by myself, paying a copay... just for him to tell me in the first two minutes he won't do the brain surgery himself and will be referring me somewhere out of state (which my insurance declined last time). When I got home I was both exhausted and very, very sore. My physical body is in terrible condition and the doctor's response to me just seemed like the same 'ol same 'ol run-around. You know? Everyone I see keeps telling me I need it, but everyone keeps telling me I need to go out of state to get it, and my insurance keeps telling me no. Meanwhile two and a half years have passed and I am just steadily getting worse. It's frustrating and while I normally deal with my physical health issues with grace, today was not that kind of day.
That said, I have gotten sleep and am in a slightly better mood now and am ready to re-face my life (if that makes sense).
For those of you who are interested or could use them some of my favorite positive quotes and affirmations are:
"The deeper the mud, the more beautiful the lotus blossoms." - Chinese Proverb
"Nothing of value is free. Even the breath of life is purchased at birth only through gasping effort and pain.../ The best things in life are beyond money; their price is agony and sweat and devotion... and the price demanded for the most precious of all things in life is life itself--ultimate cost for perfect value." - Robert A Heinlein, as written in Starship Troopers
When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. - Lao Tzu
"Suffering becomes beautiful when anyone bears great calamities with cheerfulness; not through insensibility, but through greatness of mind." -Aristotle
On a fun note, I also like this one (though it's not an affirmation, I just find it speaks to me):
The mind I love must have wild places, a tangled orchard where dark damsons drop in the heavy grass, an overgrown little wood, the chance of a snake or two, a pool that nobody's fathomed the depth of, and paths threaded with flowers planted by the mind. - Katherine Mansfield
