One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

I have been on the current project for two weeks now. The project is holding steady, but my personal nag flags are waving. Adding physical isolation to my PTSD isolation is taking its toll. I am starting to have panic attacks and my focus is fissuring. Not to worry, friends. The remedies are already in the works. We are reviewing prospects as I type. It feels like we caught the symptoms in plenty of time to head off a crisis.
As I have marshalled all the hate reflexes that accompany life with a chronic condition, I find myself reviewing peer support discussions I have shared on the way recovery seems to be a dance of one step forward, two steps back. Every humble bit of progress seems to be constantly derailed by relapses and more rolls in the mud and slime.
My current wonder is if those two steps back are about a need to respect my personal integrity. I ain't trash. The goal is not about throwing away the old me in favor of a new and improved being. Recovery is about uncovering the masterpiece Nature intended me to be.
Just chewing. . . Feel free to chew along. Food fights allowed. Fair warning, though. I fight dirty in food fights. . . Is it possible to keep a food fight clean?

88FIn 1969 we decided to get married without a big wedding. Most of our friends and family liked large over the top for the time kind of weddings and I did not. First, I didn't see why spending so much money for one day when we have the rest of our lives to live. I have never regretted not having a big formal wedding. Another issue is not liking all the attention. Also, we have gone to big...

We're all troubled.WSo, to remind ourselves we're not at rock bottom (this is a reverse optimism thing I learned as a kid):We are not living on the island of Krakatoa when the volcano goes boom!Yeah, okay, that sucks.***Toay in 1942, Pierre Laval announced that the way to free France was for Germany to win WW2. Pierre did not win a lot of friends. When the war ended, quite quickly he was tried...

Love the Rugby analogy. We have amateur Rugby leagues here in Texas. I am not much of a sports fan, but my walk-by comparisons makes me think U.S. football is for wimps. Aren't the Rugby guys playing essentially the same game without the protective gear? Whatever the evers of that what, even I can tell that both games put tremendous energy into covering small distances.
I wonder if self-esteem issues are the main reason my psyche keeps going back to the old places. The childhood conditioning which lead me to the throw-away kid camps left me with little enough self-esteem that I honestly believed I, as a human being, had nothing worth keeping. Maybe the two steps back are Nature's way of saying, "We ain't throwing nothing away. Just washing and sculpting."
Peace my friend

It's like this, imagine you wanted to be a teacher, but you didn't know what you wanted to teach. You are going to shoot off in a bunch of directions of teaching, a lot which may not work, you may not understand, you may not like, you may not be good at.
Sometimes I believe in fate. And sometimes I think we know we want to heal, and so we spout off in different directions, and the universe isn't just gonna let us stick with a path to healing that doesn't make sense to our great potential. So it may throw us off over and over again until we can figure out where to go.
Anyhow, that's how I see it. And I think you are into something. It's not about becoming a "new you" it's about discovering yourself.
Good luck arfie:)
For sure, when I started therapy in 1972, the idea that a child prostitute COULD heal was a pretty radical notion. Life expectancy, 20 years or less. Whatcha gonna do? There were still allot of apathetic shrugs going on about whether it was worth the effort to try, when you could get people to talk about it at all. Trial and error were all my shrinks and I had to work with. Perhaps more error than trial. One step forward, two steps back. Sometimes I feel like a refugee from the Island of Doctor Moreau. I wonder if that is why my damaged memory has turned my pro parade into a big ol' bowl of alphabet soup. Too many names for it, most of them abbreviated.
