There is a new swarm in the bee yard. This one has attached to the back of a hive instead of directly beneath an entrance. The hardware net over the entrances seems to be working effectively. IF my photo analysis is correct, the hardware net works because a bee combat pose requires approximately three squares of the hardware net. The invading bees cannot enter the hive in combat formations.
The corpse count beneath the invading swarm is more concentrated and there appears to be much weakness and trembling before the fallen bees finally die. Our current guess is that there is a hive exterminator working the neighborhood. Country wisdom ain't what it used to be...

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. This is why I like our pest control guys---they have a hive person come remove the hive and locate it to a friendly location, no bees dead.
Poor things, they must be frantic. Soothing thoughts to the survivors and to your hives.... I will envision them in happy Hive Spaces, maybe some bee-lovin' vibes will help?
The ladies thank you for the empathy, Leo. Their struggle is heartbreaking to watch, even if they are invaders. No, they do not seem to have enough energy to be frantic. They are just dropping from the ball, one by one. In the last go round, there was a Queen in the last of the bees to die. I found her in the final corpse sweep and... It took her two more days to die after I swept her up. Based on that, I am guessing there is another Queen in the middle of this ball, as well.
Wish I knew how to help them... Bee sanctuary dreams???
She did much research on bees so I have to believe it isn't all fiction.
arfie when I read what is going on around your hive I connect to the book. A special place in my heart for bees. They play a special role in the universe. I plant for the bees and butterflies.

I grew up where "corporate agriculture" wasn't much of a concern---ever been to PA? Yeah, not a lot of places where you can plant thousands of acres of monoculture crap. Terrain is against it. Cows, subsistence farming, a few people who do some soy and corn fields with Monsanto labels (or ADM or Cargill et al.).... mostly tho'? We were field so f hay (aka whatever grew wild).... So bees up there always had their choice of yummies. Apple orchards to wild roses.
I loathe monoculture corporate agriculture... horrific to the environment in so many ways, not just the poor bees.
I told Hubby once if we ever played and won the lotto, I'd buy 500 acres of rural undeveloped land and make it bee and butterfly sanctuary.... I still would, but we never play the lotto. Alas.
