Hi, I am have military PTSD sufferer along with bipolar. The later I have been a member of for a while. My idea and that from my PDoc and TDoc was to work on stabilizing my depression and suicide attempts (yeah for lengthy hospitalizations). My PTSD comes back very hard after a mania episode, and the TDoc is now starting to work on this. Wanted to introduce myself. I have a lot to post on PTSD as my questions are legion.

Here is my new brother, copper :) He's so tiny! Moo and Tuck were ok with him on first meeting. Rocket due to his severe aggression will never meet Cooper.

A World War II combat vet who fought the Nazis, Albert Camus, wrote about suicide. He said that honestly, he didn't condemn folks who thought about it. He wondered instead how there were people who didn't.
He talked about how once you do think about it, then thinking about suicide becomes repetitive. He said that was like in the old Greek myth of Sisyphus. That guy was condemned to rolling a boulder up a hill only to have it roll down again every time he reached the top. Over and over for all eternity.
His reference to Sisyphus didn't comfort me at ALL. But Camus went on to say that he still thought Sisyphus was happy with himself for not giving up. I didn't see how, but I decided to give it a shot. My pushing my boulder would be that I'd log on to DS PTSD and post every day. Overnight it would roll back down, sure. Then I'd have to log back on and post to roll it back up again.
That was 3 years ago, and I'm still keeping on rolling by boulder up hill daily as my Daily Strength routine. It's not curing me, but folks here tell me every day they're glad to see me. I have no wife and no kids, no roommate, no one I'm dating to say that to me, so I'll take it. I have no large health insurance policy that would make me worth more dead or alive. I just have a little one at work I left to my therapist so he can cover my funeral expenses when I'm gone.
There aren't many offline folks who could miss me when I'm gone. I'm moving to Mexico to afford retirement. When I die here I'll only have those new Mexican friends I hope I will make after I move here.
Like WanderingVet said, though, here at DS a person like me makes a friends. Those I'll get to keep wherever I move to, and that means a lot to me as I push that boulder of mine logging on here every day.
Funny story to follow, that French combat vet's suggestion. It may be off topic for you, but looking back at my 2016 post here on DS about suicide, it's gotten me through 3 years now. Whatever works, right?
