To live is to fly, both low and high
"So shake the dust off of your wings
"And the sleep out of your eyes." ~Townes van Zandt
Sometime, way back in the last millennium, when therapists first started talking about the dangers of dissociating to the point of not feeling my own hunger or pain, I raged at them as violently as I did when they told me that I had to remember and process the crapola parade which conditioned me to that level of dissociation.
My last detainment level breakdown was in 1999. I already had some clues of what they had been trying to tell me by then. The blindside on that breakdown was the stress of a winning season. Always something, isn't there?
In the aftermath of the MIL/DIL blow out - the loss of my grandson - I dissociated that far again. Not to the point where police cruisers were shining their light on me, but enough that I hurt myself pretty good during the flight. Since arriving here at the river confluence, the flight mode has subsided enough that I am feeling hunger and pain again. Ouch. I really did hurt myself. Amends underway. . .
It hurts, but the pain is ??? Welcome ?????????
Feeling a bit fuzzy here. Experience, opines and reality checks welcome.

It being my 57th birthday today, I've been taking stock, and since I finally accepted my family's pattern late in life at 52, I'm proud of myself because it has led me to a fuller 5 years than ever before. " Both low and high" as Townes said.
I am glad you are here you keep me thinking and some day I just may try that soaring thing.
My husband relates to Townes on a soulmate level. They are from the same Houston neighborhood where Townes lived the line he uses in "Fraternity Blues"
