Their only fiscal plan has been to run all older faculty into early retirement by taking away offices, secretarial access, hardware, whatever can make life hard at the college for them. I'm just another one of a series of early retirees; one from last year named Bill called me yesterday. The forty-somethings are careful not to be nice as we head out the door in case we should reconsider at the last minute. So I'll get no fond farewell from my college administration, but Bill is having me over to his house for a party this Saturday. Nice guy.
As for me today, I still have to post final grades and attend end of year meetings via Zoom, but today was my first retirement day without teaching. It's good, but it feels scary somehow, like I forgot my schedule and there's something I'm supposed to be doing
I even taught part time while I was a full time chaplain from 2000-2010, so this is new to me. I talked to a retired teacher from church, and she said that I'll get busy with other stuff. I'm not there yet, just beginning day one.
I got through my first Monday of retirement from teaching ok, though. I had Zoom lunch with math prof Steve. it was a good 1st retirement day, thanks to all of you, and to you, Secouya, in particular. Gracias.
