Leading challenging class trip tomorrow
I teach death and dying college classes to nurses from my years as a hospital chaplain. I was proud to do hospital chaplaincy work with trauma patients at a big city ER as an extension of my own PTSD recovery.
I do, however, avoid certain settings, since I got PTSD overseas as a missionary kid in a war zone. One thing I've avoided has been the Holocaust Museum in DC. My neighbors growing up overseas were survivors of the concentration camps. They were people I loved dearly as a kid. They showed me their tattoos and told me their stories, and that was all I needed to know.
Lovely people, so I was so sorry about what was done to them. By the way, though, they were so lovely that in my day they had put the Holocaust behind them and were like Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus on my block. Why? They owned a toy factory. A toy factory! We kids on the block loved them!
So my college has arranged a field trip to the Holocaust Museum, and two other professors asked me to go along. I didn't try to justify getting out of it. My students really wanted to go, and the other professors need the support. My boss really wanted me to do it, too.
So I'm going. But I'd appreciate the support. Especially when it comes to the "Shoes Exhibit." It's going to remind me of my wonderful neighbors. I think I'll cry when my students and I come to that part of the museum tomorrow.

Please send good thoughts of support if you can. Thanks.

I'm alive, I'm sleeping like a rock, and for some reason I wanted cherry juice so that seems to be helping. (??? Weirdo that I am.)***Infamous therapies over history:1. The Attic. The madwoman in the attic is a motif in literature going waaaaaay back: the nutty female relative is locked in the attic. (See: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte for a grotesquely racist version of it, and Charlotte Perkins...

Hugs and Support,muji.
My daughter just got an assignment from her 9th grade English class to write a paper on the impact of of the Vietnam war on literature.
(Global warming is projected to start killing 250,000/year. If people are so poor that they don't have shoes...will their deaths even count?)
Sending you much support & a hug :)
Thanks for that.
I admire your courage. I think going with a group is a good idea. I think a lot of folks will feel like you do.
be a healing day for you too! You are daring to face a fear....choosing to remember your
loving neighbors and the stories they have told. Tears can bring freshness and release....
and even relief for you. Do not be ashamed. You are being deliberate, and you are being
brave! What a witness for your students!! I will remember you in my prayers.
today. I told my students that my PTSD support group had my back, and so 4 of them stuck with me all day. I got close to crying twice, but I maintained with the result that I had a good time with my students today. And with the other 2 professors along on the field trip, too. I got to voice how I felt, but mostly I got to listen and to show a willingness to listen more in days to come.
