Fahnette
Friday night I ended up drinking too much and rage-typing a script for the film festival we do every year with a friend/co-worker of my husband's. I still have a major headache but this was easily the best thing our team has done since Fahnz and I came on board. Kinda worth it, in a "dear don't ever do that to yourself again" kind of way.
I met the most triggering human being at the prep meeting, oh my damn. He reminded me way too much of my father. You know the type--thinks he knows it all, likes to make hurtful jokes and follow them up with JUST KIDDING. After a few hours of me being dismissed and cut down and having everyone else's ideas over-analyzed and put down we got fed up and left. Our director friend pulled me aside and said "Write it. When you get home. Just write it."
So I did. Fahnz stayed up for a while to make sure I was okay, but apparently I was in such a state he was a little afraid of me! I only got two hours of sleep and then we were off to the shoot.
It was a great shoot. Two lovely actors, the script got turned into exactly what I was fighting for at the prep meeting--something very stripped-down and basic, minimal dialogue, and a strong collaborative flow. Our friend got so caught up in what our leads were doing he forgot to stop recording a few times! It was a very positive, meaningful day.
At the end of it I realized and accepted that I am damned good at this. I think it's really important for us to remind ourselves that there are things we do that are amazing, that we are all good people who have just been through some hard things and deserve to be happy and loved. Yay us!

I am glad you had a great shoot and love what you do. And you are right, we are all good at something that we can love to do also. And yes, we all do deserve to be happy, despite our obstacles. Obstacles are just things to be overcome. Congrats to you.
YEAH YOU!!!!!!!!
Now don't do that to yourself again. It quits working if you overuse it.
I wonder what would happen if when he said " Just Kidding," someone loudly said ( In front of other people ) " No, you meant every single word, and I KNOW it!"
Probably DARVO like the coward he really is.
I know, I'm getting mean in my old age, I think about these things...I have been far too docile.
you are damned good. :)

Yes, I have met the Doppleganger of the Dad too. It inspired some very interesting poetry in my case.
Congrats on getting things done so well!
Now that I'm a few days out of it I'm a lot more chill. We were bandying about the idea that Life and Death were in this guy's house playing board games to see who would have the right to his immortal soul and I made some comment about what it would be like from the dying guy's perspective. I had made comments about being in an ambulance before--one of the composers is the director of Urgent Cares and we had discussed setting the short in that environment so I had thrown out some of the things I heard when I was getting taken to the hospital--and when I said that, the THB (triggering human being) said "Wow, you talk like you've been through it" and had that aren't-I-funny face on.
So I very calmly explained that yes, I had in fact come very close to death, in front of my students no less, and been taken away in an ambulance and here's my incision from having an IVC filter cut out of my belly six months later. He stopped looking at me after that.
Our screening is Wednesday but DirectorFriend sent us a link to the short so we can watch it. I can't wait.
