Hey, I'm new here, and could really use a helping hand, err, i mean ear, umm, i mean eyes? Okay, anyways, I've been trying to cope with life for awhile now, seeing a psychiatrist who told me I was having PTSD from a sexual assault, but in realisty, I feel as though my PTSD is more related to my mom. I've found her a number of times after overdosing and suicide attempts, and I was so busy in school that I think i just pushed it off and focused on my university degree, but now that ive graduated, I feel as though everything's hitting me all at once. Anyone else experience this? Trying to babysit your mother on a daily basis, just waiting for the next phone call that comes to say that she's finally gone through with it and she's gone?
Sorry, a little brutal and to the point, but I've been beating around the bush for too long. Any ideas on how to get through this?

My day...today...misplaced my debit card...didn't realize it until I got to the register after shopping to a full cart. Used a different debit card and pulled apart everything looking for missing debit card before I left parking lot. Got home, dropped keys. So now I have a missing debit card, missing keys. Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

Your post sounded quite to the point (I LOVE simple wordings) but the brutality didn't even tip the community meter. We deal with some hard, hard shit here and ? ? ? How do we heal the wounds of brutality without getting brutal? When we have to go to the especially brutal places in wound washing detail, it is allowed. We put a "TW" (Trigger Warning) in our header to warn vulnerable members and let 'er rip. There is more room outside than inside, so don't hold back. Letting it out is part of the healing process.
PTSD theories are far from consistent, but I subscribe to the theory that it is not the event which causes PTSD. Post Traumatic Stress is a normal response to trauma. It is the way the PTS is processed which puts the "D" on the PTS and turns it into PTSD. It is most certainly possible that dysfunctional processing can be learned from our parents. In my just-a-patient opine, anyway.
Whatever the evers of the theoretical whats. . . Welcome to the forum.
Sorry so graphic, but... Yeah. My life si that way. Push-cope and then... It catches up. All at once. Ended up in the ER when that happened in 2013.
I'll add to Arfie's theory that we're also overwhelmed, and so coping won't work no matter what. People with great coping skills end up wtih PTSD simply b/c too much happens. The biological component of our brains "short-circuiting" sucks, but it's there. We're *meant* to feel lousy after bad things. But we're meant to be like our animals, and go find a quiet place to heal. We typically don't. Part of that is bad coping skills taught us by the society standard for "normal". But if the hits keep coming? Crap on a kebab, ther's no time for that rest, and our biology jsut goes "zzzt".
Healing hopes to you, and to us all.
