I was just wondering if I can have PTSD from a dream? I don't feel comfortable sharing the dream that I had but I can't stop thinking about how terrible it was and I know that it wasn't real but it continues to haunt me. I have a form of PTSD from other life situations but I was wondering if a dream could cause it?

Every case is unique and doctor I ain't, but I do believe my PTSD causes my nightmares, not the other way around. I believe dreams are but an expression of real life, including the confusions of my personal psychoses (pl). In active therapy, we often used my haunting dreams as guides for where to ply therapy focus.

So I believe. . . Perhaps this is a question for a doctor?

I would ask my doctor about it, too, purplezebrastripes. Dreams used to bedevil me a lot in my PTSD symptoms, so much so that I took too much Seroquel for them and ended up with extensive kidney damage. My doctor switched me to Prazosin, which is processed by the liver, and I've had great results. Not only do I not have bad PTSD dreams, I've had good dreams that sort out my trauma memories more as I sleep, and further my recovery in the day time. So I would definitely ask my doctor about it, since asking my doctor did so much for me.

Agree with both the above replies. You wake up and remember the dream, which means it is now in your conscious mind as a memory. Do share it with your doctor. Healing hugs.
