I feel like I need to talk but don't know how
hey,
I've known I've had this for a long time, and I've been in and out of therapy. I'm what you'd consider "high functioning" from the outside, I do a lot, I work in the mental health field and have held high positions, and I think I generally get by through pushing away the bad stuff, "keeping moving" and focusing on what I can..
for whatever reason I cant figure out, in the last few months it's been getting so much worse. I don't know what to do anymore and I feel like I'm barely holding it together/hanging on. I've started hurting myself again which I hadn't in a long time, I can't sleep for vivid nightmares/flashbacks and can't really stop them during the day either. I feel constantly anxious and sick and so tired. Part of the thing, though, is that I know (through work) most everyone in the mental health system around here, and a lot of my friends and family also rely on me for their support - I don't really know where to turn, and I'm worried if this will impact my career, but I don't know how much longer I can do this.
i talked a little to my doctor, and she prescribed an antidepressant, but since I've started I feel if anything more in touch with these feelings and my memories seem more clear.
any advice/support/etc. is appreciated. At this point I'm not even sure what's real anymore

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
That resonated with me...even if one keeps doing what has been working for them, once the repression reservoir is full, a flood happens. Same person, same coping, different outcome.
I am not entirely sure what to do with that, but it is a new page in the owners' manual that is worth studying.

In my personal herstory, I have come to visualize that *pushing away* that I do to remain functional as a psychic storage closet where I stuff all the living clutter I don't have time or desire to deal with. The closet fills before you know it and as time goes on, it gets harder and harder to get the door closed. Further attempts to stuff pieces of clutter in there result in an avalanche that comes down on my head when I open that door. What's a high-functioning nut job to do? Can I build a new storage closet in my brain? Sigh. . . By the time I got around to sorting my own storage closet, the original traumas had had time and freedom to spawn all sorts of new spin-offs while I was busy being busy.
Whatever your analogy of choice, what to do about ^it^ is about as individualized as a proposition can get. No two cases are the same and available options vary and change continually. Ah, if only it was as simple as the encouragement to, "Get help" implies. One of the greater consistencies in my own healing journey has been that my peer support network is a great place to sort it out. The experience and diversity of the peer support network has helped me find options I never would have found on my own or even with the help of a single member of the pro nets.
DS is one of the peer support spots on my network. Hope it helps you as much as it has helped me. Welcome aboard.
Coming here has helped me find my voice, especially since what I learn here has led to my speaking at churches once a month about what I learn here. When I have to write those 8 page talks I give, it forces me to summarize what I'm learning here.
So I'm glad you've joined us. This is a healing group.
