I'm 36 years old. I'm still recovering from a TBI that occurred 3 years ago now. I was taking meds in doses not to be mixed with alcohol, I had done 1 dose and didn't feel anything whatsoever, did my second and woke up in a hospital bed 1.5 months later with absolutely no recollection of what had occurred or why I was even there. I had fallen down a flight of stairs which then my injury occurred. I have concluded that I did my second dose of this med the night prior. I now wear a leg brace and walk with a cane, I have a knot on my leg and the doctors have concluded that it's all because of my head injury. I had been working as a chef in the restaurant industry for 20+ years. I have lost my identity and career as such and it is so very painful, embarrassing and shameful. I'm just trying to figure out how to get back into a kitchen and career as a position and title that has and did in fact give me reason and purpose to exceed in my life in numerous forms and manners.

So I have been having a lot of health issues and my cardiologist felt that he didn't get clear enough images of my heart in the office, so he wanted to do a Trans-esophegeal heart Echocardiocgram in the hospital. I was pretty nervous about it, because I've never had any procedures related to my heart or any other major organs. I've had knee surgery and thyroid surgery, but to me anything to do...

breaking isolation has been an important part of my own healing journey with its long, winding herstory of starting over. its all to easy to stew over the unfairness of it all when i let myself isolate. finding safe places to open up and feel less alone goes a long way towards opening new doors.
this very forum is one of my safe places. i hope it serves you as well as it has served me. welcome aboard.
for what its worth
in hindsight, i believe janitor was one of the better jobs i've done in my job-hopper career. there's no glamour to the job, but it is quietly essential with lots of meditative exercise.
You sure don't deserve to get beaten up anymore.... You deserve kindness and compassion now
You could always start cooking for an organization that is charitable and see how it goes...
I was a nurse and now I clean my landlords place and do his laundry as part of my rent...
These types of jobs are honourable and helpful to others
Sometimes baby steps are what we need to take and self kindness
Maybe pretend that someone else wrote this post.... How would you feel about the other person?... Would you be forgiving and compassionate??
Gentle hug of peace and calm.... This is a good place to come.... xo
the good news is that there are many excursions and opportunities of grandeur for the experiencing. letting go of what you were open the door to things you never imagined.
