My granddaughter (4+ months old) was the first female born into my husband's family in 103 years. Hubs gets angry with me when I make reference to the difference that can make in a family perspective. I have talked to quite a few men from all female families who fully disagree with him. Be the gender dominance male or female, the minority in the equation all too often feels left out and/or bullied by the majority, especially when the majority is busy trying to convince themselves it doesn't matter. I certainly feel bullied and invalidated on a routine basis. Is it more than a feeling?
Thoughts? Opines? Soap box rants?
Is calling his family, "A Man Clan" over the top?

Sorry you feel bullied.
I think when people say or behave as if it doesn't matter, they know it *does*. It's like the people who say, "I'm not a racist... (but...)"
I deleted a long reply here b/c my family's ender is split with my dad's family heavily male-dominated until about 1850, men men men raining men, with one blip of girls one (his mother and her sisters)... My mom's side is females outnumbering males about 2-1 in any given generation. My dad's side is my nightmare, my mom's side is why I have any sanity at all. So I have no freaking clue at *all*.
Invalidated and bullied came to me from both genders. I think my generation has mistaken feminism for "being as big an a-hole as a stereotypical knuckle-dragging power-tripping man", which pretty much negates the whole concept IMHO. I see girls acting what they call "tough" and it's the behavior excoriated in men, soooo... um.... Huh?
Sorry, there went my brevity. I'm trying to figure out how to put this in *English*. Animal talks better. Gah.
You are validated and you are *you*, Arfie, that's what I *know*.
I was raised with 5 brothers and 5 sisters. 2 of each older, 3 of each younger. Perhaps the only piece of my childhood that was evenly balanced. To make it even funner, we typically had to share a single bathroom and often a single bedroom. Going from there to an upper crust Man Clan where nobody shares anything outside the catered events was outright culture shock. Still haven't assimilated.
I never have been able to agree with many of the cultural stereotypes about gender, but there is not a doubt in my mind that it matters every day. Like ethnicity, it decides almost nothing, but it influences continually.
