I was feeling like things were on the upswing and tried being a bit social. A work friend’s daughter had a show the night before so I stopped in and asked how it went. Afterwards starting chatting about coaching my daughter in basketball. Out of nowhere she started correcting me and telling me how I should be teaching them. I didn’t ask for help. I actually enjoy coaching and have enjoyed the improvement in each players skills. My friend raised her voice to talk over me and explained that I should coach all the kids not just my own. I was insanely triggered and left her office when she yelled at me to come back. My hands were shaking I was so angry. It took several minutes alone in my office but depression again set in. Now the negative thoughts have flooded back including a bit of SI and thoughts of SH. Is this normal friend behavior? She has never seen me coach. Why did she assume I only coach my kid? My EMDR therapist says the “why” is my problem. It was uncalled for and not nice. If it is why am I bothering to even leave my house and talk to anyone. Wishing I lived alone in the middle of nowhere.

but sometimes the truth hurts. Anyways...
The thing its hard to judge whether this person was "just talking bluntly" or whether they intentionally meant to hurt you... which I dont think is what this person meant btw, but its hard to tell when we have certain behaviour and mindsets that is like instinct to us. And if they dont know your having troubles its hard when someone criticize your behaviour.
I am currently trying to work through this but its still a struggle, though I am awfully aware of it... I have the urge as well to want to live alone in the middle of nowhere.
I recommend taking a walk, shake it off, it didnt meant anything. unfortunately not everybody is "soft and gentle" when giving advice or their opinions. But, Yes its just opinions! You dont have to listen to it, especially if you feel your doing a good job coaching! Dont worry about it, and dont feel guilty for getting mad... id be mad too that someone was claiming assumptions like that.
warm hugs.
Whatever this person's reason for going psycho, steadying support and healing hopes while you recover from the aftershocks.
Healing hopes for all. No exceptions.
