was in a situation where i was forced to advocate for my rights as a person on disability and it was scary, but i did it and won the situation in my favor. i lost alot of support during this time. but i supported myself and got to a better place. it is not easy to stand up in the face of stigma the ugly face of discrimination but it feels incredible to be empowered, and i credit it to the work i have done on myself the last years and also i knew i had to do it to stay safe, amazing what we can do when we have to. that is my post , and would love to hear from anyone how they can relate thanks

Life has been really hard this past year. I'm really feeling down and alone. I can't talk to my family about my depression and anxiety their not very understanding about it. It's really hitting me since my mother passed a few months ago, plus stress from having to eventually move. Also having my niece coming around who suffers bipolar and refuses to take medication for it. Its been...

When i was in the ER February 16th 2025, i was being admitted to ICU where i was for 3 weeks, then had to relearn to walk for 3 weeks in another hospital rehab floor, the nurse told me something that made me feel for over 18 months now that i was finally *safe*. She told me that the guy who raped and beat me 21 years ago now almost 20 years at that time, was in prison as of a month before that...

I dont know how to 'stand up' to doctors who wont even aknowlege my symptoms. Even say i am delusional.
From here, it looks like we share coping mechanisms for standing up for ourselves in the face of stigma and unrealistic expectations. If it was easy, everybody would do it. It is, indeed, empowering beyond belief.
In 2010 I was hospitalized for depression. I was put on triliptal and I turned into a walking zombie. Many of the other patients saw the dramatic change over night. I felt horrid...but I was So Afraid to say anything cause the doctor I had was scary and didn't really think I had a brain. I struggled from afternoon, til night medication time...I refused the medication, my right as an adult, for my own wellness. The next day, the psydr was pissed, but he did start me on a different medication. Turns out I was allergic to triliptal. I learned later this doctor left the hospital....guess he didn't like his job or too many complaints about him??? don't know???
